1. I haven't been able to afford a full tank of gas
for 3 years now. Now I can't even afford a half a tank of gas.

2. I've finally reached my limit. I do Not have an SUV or gas-guzzler,
but if I get a full tank now, it's close to $40!

GEEZE!

I've been driving an awful lot less, but now I'm going to have to start buying by the half-tank, and limiting my trips even more. :(

I haven't taken a pleasure drive (sightseeing, leaf-peeping, backroad roaming) in AGES.

59% yes 41% no

As much as it pains me, I fill up at a half of a tank. I am too afraid of what the gas prices will be if I wait.

11. when i was in college, i used the odometer as the fuel gauge...
because i could hardly ever afford to put in enough gas to make the needle move off "E".
i'd figure 15 mpg, put in two gallons or so at a time, and when i'd gone close to 30 miles, it was time for another couple gallons.

20. I'm quite like you
I can squeeze 40 mpg from my tired old Honda if traffic and tire pressure don't mess me up. I chose my apartment because I could get anything I needed in a 2 mile radius. Having spent my working life on the road, staying away from the fools on the road now is worth more than the cost to keep my tank full.

14. I can spend $40 a month on gas.
It doesn't matter what it costs, this is what they get from me when my SS comes in. It came in today and I went and pumped $40. It didn't fill my tank but it will have to last me until the next check in a month. I think that I am more agitated that I have to pump my own gas and that it costs this much.

18. We are considering that too...
We have no credit card debt or car loans. However, we are so pissed, we are considering
buying a Prius.

My husband actually did the numbers and figures that the gas savings alone (if we traded in my SUV)
would be about $170 a month. So getting rid of my SUV would be like getting rid of a car payment.

23. I surprised my wife with a new Prius for Valentines day.
She loves it. And my Harley-Davidson gets better gas mileage than that. So we're in pretty good shape there. The nice thing about Florida, is I can ride it pretty much year round. Except for tonight. It's frickin' cold out there.

We got, I think, $780 off our taxes for buying the Prius. Plus it saves us about $80 a month in gas over my last car (a fuel-efficient Saturn).

43. I got rid of my SUV last year
I couldn't afford a hybrid, but I downsized big time and bought a Chevy Aveo, which gets about 35 miles a gallon. It's a tight fit for a family of four, but the costs are SO much lower.

16. Three years ago, our entire budge for gas....
Edited on Wed Feb-27-08 11:50 PM by TwoSparkles
...for two weeks was $90. That was for two cars.

I filled up our car (SUV...sorry) last night. $90. That will keep me driving for a week to ten days.

Our two-week gas expenses are now about $230 for both cars.

Amazing difference.

Don't even get me started about grocery prices.

19. We have a Nissan Sentra and a Toyota Tacoma
I rarely drive any distance, so a tank of gas lasts me two weeks on the average. That tank is now over $30. When we bought the car fourteen years ago, that tank of gas was less than $15.

My husband drives back and forth to work an hour each way. His tank is $50+. Each week.

We're now looking into other alternatives. It's too expensive for us to move, buying another vehicle is also too expensive, and he drives in weather conditions six months of the year that he needs the ability to use four-wheel drive.

Julie

However the kicker is going to be this summer. I've got five acres to mow, and it's getting expensive(I use about a gallon an acre). I'm seriously thinking about getting a few sheep and let them do the cutting.

So my gas bill is less than what a lot of people spend at Starbucks.

Of course I only use a car to get to work if there's precipitation and it doesn't rain too often where I live.

36. I can't afford gas OR home heating oil. And especially not a Prius, congrats to you who can.

Enjoy your wealth and good fortune while you can because if you are like most of us you are one stroke, or other serious family illness away from catastrophe.

Our "youngest" car is a 1995 and sometimes I have no choice but to fill it. McDonald's has a great (but not healthy) dollar menu.

Heating oil is a mess, have kept the house near 60 degrees all winter and that is damn cold. And still can only afford 100 gallons at a time and pray we don't run out.

My mother didn't ask for what happened to her (a major stroke) and she deserves healthcare and ongoing therapy, not to be warehoused in pain and misery in a smelly nursing home (and should not have to give up everything my family worked for for three generations to Medicaid to pay some for-profit pigs for this wonderful "care".)

If we don't have fair and accurate elections NOTHING WILL CHANGE, not energy policy, or healthcare, or anything else.

A lot of us have been giving our all to this at great personal cost, and are barely hanging on. Take me seriously when I say support the (preferably state or local) election integrity organization of your choice, rather that the cash-stuffed major campaigns, with another stolen election at stake.

SUPPORT ELECTION INTEGRITY NOW, NOT NEXT DECEMBER.
