The ashes of Margaret Truman Daniel, the last Kansas City area native to call the White House home, will be interred today at the burial plot of her parents, Harry and Bess Truman.
Daniel, the former president’s daughter, died Jan. 29 in Chicago. Her public memorial service will begin at 11 a.m. at the Truman Library in Independence.
Truman Library officials expect the facility’s auditorium, with fewer than 250 seats, to be filled with family, friends and invited guests for the first portion of the service. Overflow visitors and the public will be invited to listen over loudspeakers in the library’s museum galleries, as well as watch on television monitors.
Following the service, all visitors will be invited to the library’s courtyard. There, the ashes of Daniel and those of her husband, E. Clifton Daniel, who died in 2000, will be interred in a vault not far from the Truman graves
