AfriCom-- more of the Bush legacy?
Kinda quietly slipping through the campaign news is the final thread-tying of the Pentagon's new African Command. Even the following article, from our propaganda arm the VOA, tends to agree that this new commansd will call the shots for the State Department, any and all disaster or other aid, and economic development. Other articles I've seen say it more explicitly, albeit with a bit of tinfoil.

But, no matter how you see it, the generals will be deeply involved in everything from food supples, to AIDS prevention to, ummm... diamond, gold, and uranium production. And which group of thieving, corrupt governments or revolutionaries get our guns.

Africa is an extraordinarily rich continent-- one wonders if it would be better off it it were poorer.
