http://hisz.rsoe.hu/alertmap/index.php?smp=&lang=engThe Coast Guard received a report of an oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico Saturday. A watchstander at the Galveston unit answered a call about the spill at 4:28 a.m. The caller said the Grady Fagan, a 193-foot offshore supply ship, hit the rig Ocean Star as it was preparing to offload supplies. The ship was holed below the water line in its starboard fuel tank. There was also a 2-inch gash above the water line. The Coast Guard says an unknown amount of fuel leaked from the ship. The tank holds 9,000 gallons of diesel fuel. The spill is located 140 miles southeast of Galveston, approximately 30 miles south of the Flower Gardens Banks National Marine Sanctuary—an environmentally sensitive area. After the accident, the Grady Fagan immediately began controlling the flowing and transferring fuel from the damage tank to prevent further release. A Coast Guard jet crew from Air Station Corpus Christi flew over the scene around 10 a.m. and detected no visible pollution. The MSRC ship Texas Responder with Coast Guard investigators aboard is standing by to respond. The cause of the incident is under investigation. )
