Yep Dobson, Falwell, and the rightwing, conservative fundamentalist bunch cannot find any candidate they can support in the 2008 Presidential race.

Hmmmm .... that should tell people a lot about how extreme their views are that no one presently running fills their bill.

As a helpful suggestion, maybe they should run one of their own as an independent in 2008, and encourage all their fundie friends to vote only for that candidate.

That would be Karl Rove's worst nightmare ..... and it could happen if enough Republican corruption leaks out before the General Election.

1. It could have been Romney
if they didn't hate Mormons. Its hard to have many friends when your bigotry eliminates so many.

3. Well at some point in time in the past Romney was not against abortion, so there...
... he has not crawled to the foot of Falwell and Dobson, kissed their ring, and begged forgiveness (like another Republican candidate we all know --who once called Falwell an agent of intolerance, but today is best buddies with him).

Romney has exactly NO CHANCE of ever winning the support of this group. They have their litmus tests, and there is no flexibility that allows support of anyone who EVER opposed one of their hotbutton issues.

I guess if there is no candidate they can support, they will just turn out and not vote for a presidential candidate, right?

4. Yeah but McCain is being used and abused worse this time than when he ran before....
Edited on Sun Feb-25-07 04:06 PM by Blackhatjack
Bush gives him 'the hug' and promises he will introduce McCain to all his top campaign aides and fundraisers if McCain changes his positions and supports Bush --which he does, and Bush in the meantime is pushing his brother Jeb to run.

McCain swallows his pride and crawls to Falwell alleging he has changed and will support overturning Roe(abortion), but Falwell has no intention of helping McCain.

And now the public sees and understands the hypocrisy going on, and McCain's numbers drop below 20% approval.

Stick a fork in McCain, he is done....

7. Here's some fun info on Tom Ellis, the CNP director that followed Tim LeHay in the early 80's
Ellis was also a director the "Pioneer Fund" in the 70's, a rather http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=364&topic_id=3142435&mesg_id=3150201">interesting institution.

It's also pretty amusing that Grover Norquist is a member, considering he http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=389x257337">was running a Muslim Brotherhood-linked GOTV group for Bush's 2000 campaign.

13. bookmarked this thread - for those links.
There is so much more on Norquist on google these days that it is hard to find those specific links. Thanks for the recall and link to the original story - andto some of the later related stories.

8. This is precisely why we need MORE parties..
Liberal/Progressive
Social Conservatives
Christian fundamentalists
Fiscal Conservatives
Moderates

It's time to make people identify just who they are and what they want.

Parties have twisted themselves into pretzels trying to pretend to be something they are not.

All it's done is turn people off, and make people cynical.

If you are a religious fundie, SAY SO and put forth one of your own. If your ideas are so wonderful, you should have no trouble getting people to sign on.

Two main parties cannot truly represent "all the people" anymore

10. For a Long Time Ralph Reed Was Being Groomed As Their Candidate, but you know what happened to him..
He not only did not get their support, but got beat in his race for governor after it came out he was lying to everyone, laundering money from Jack Abramoff, and using 'religious money' to support gambling interests.

Oh well, he would have fit right in with the leaders of the rightwing conservative fundamentalists if he had not been caught and exposed.

12. Yo Jimbo, hey Jer, news flash.
That vaunted power base you boast about is myth. In case you hadn't noticed, take a few minutes and google political archives dated November 8th./06. You say you can't "find any candidate you can support in the 2008 Presidential race"? Bullshit, you bloviating sand-baggers, you've got two or three candidates who would mold perfectly into your job description.

See, the problem is your "acceptable candidates" would be about as salable as a Hummer at a Honda hybrid convention. Listen Jimbo, pay attention Jer,except for the blind ones still hobbled in the barn, your ponies have bolted.

Gotta hand it to you guys though, you're still out there flailing away, pretending the great masses are still mobilized for your agenda. They're gone dudes, you know it, we know it and this "we didn't have a candidate we could support" crap is all subterfuge to give you cover for the train wreck coming straight at you in 08.

15. They'd love to have Duncan Hunter.
Duncan Hunter would be an ideal fit for Jerry and Jimbo. Problem is they don't dare back him publically; you see Dunc stands at 2% in the popularity poll, just shade better than the not applicable category.

The only way Jerry and Jim could back Hunter is if he could claw his way into the 20% to 30% range. This would allow them to jump in and leapfrog to their rightful position at the head of the parade. If they come out at this stage for a 2%er they put in serious jeopardy their self-appointed role as spokesmen for the Christian Taliban. These good old boys read the writing on the wall and just decided to cut and run.

16. Ha! Yes.
I actually chuckled when I was over there the other day and noticed they had a poll asking who they'd support. I think Rudy came in a DISTANT second.

That tells you a lot about the makeup of freeperville.
