ignorant bikers demand vigilante justice,
Jessie's Riders tell Couey to beware
On the two-year anniversary of Jessica Lunsford's disappearance, thousands of bikers called for retribution.
By ELENA LESLEY
Published February 24, 2007

CRYSTAL RIVER - On the two-year anniversary of Jessica Lunsford's disappearance, thousands of bikers called for retribution.

Let John Couey dodge the electric chair, they said. Let him get off on a technicality. We'll be waiting.

"Pedophiles need to watch their backs," said Sarah Davidson, one of the estimated 5,000 bikers who turned out for the third annual Jessie's Memorial Ride on Saturday. "It's an eye for an eye in this population."

While bikers gathered to pay tribute to a slain girl, many couldn't help but fantasize about punishment for her accused killer, Couey, who is awaiting his trial in Miami.

"I don't want him to die; that would be too easy," said Davidson, of Largo, who has five kids. "I want them to turn him loose in the general population and let them bury him alive."

really, if these idiots don't like the american system of justice, they should move to wonderful iraq, where extra-judicial executions and tribal revenge is the order of the day.

1. Their idea of justice is "an eye for an eye".......
and they will decide punishment for the accused. I suppose they will also decide who is guilty without trial. They are impatient because jury selection is taking some time. You would think they would be glad the system works that way. The new American justice system "turn him loose in the general population and let them bury him alive". I guess that's what some call democracy, the American way.

2. "We have met the enemy, and he is us."
From the Right Wing asshole pundits to the center/Left, inhuman activities like the Death Penalty and other retribution are waved like the bloody shirt and called "JUSTICE."

We as a nation grew these people. We are all responsible, and we are all punished for their madness.

4. Blatant mis-use of a tragic violent crime for revenge orgy. Forget the victim and obsess

on the perp.

They seem to forget about the life they claim to memorialize, and to focus on the death. And more death.

Every country has this shit. I see the same thing here on DU anytime someone posts an article about a particularly heinous crime or crime suspect or convict.

We get all the same comments on what a great thing it is we have a violent prison gulag in this country, so the perp can receive some extras-legal vigilantly brutality, from the other presumably equally brutalized inmates.

Fear and loathing seems to be fashionable.

12. EX: two students assaulting teacher
Some DUers called for them to be charged with attempted murder. Others hoped for them to be sent to prison and gang raped.

the youths involved were around 14 & 17. They were wrong to shove (once) and punch (once)the 60 year old man and should be punished for doing so. But where do we draw the line in our need for pay back for our own moral outrage.

5. Yeah, good idea
Good idea to undermine the rule of law and criminal justice system. If every dumbass with a grudge and a weapon goes out shooting people they don't like we get anarchy. Assholes.

After the execution, what do they have? The anger is still there, isn't it?

Not to be cold or callous but... what does that have to do with the discussion at hand?

8. John Couey kidnapped, raped and buried Jessie alive.
If that was your daughter, thinking of her last moments - you would not fantasize a terrible revenge for her rapist and killer.

These bikers led a very peaceful ride through my area of Florida in support of Jessie's memory and her dad. It was not a "Ride for Retribution". It was a ride in support of Jessie's Law - to mete out much tougher sentences, NATIONWIDE for sex offenders/predators. To twist it into this article/thread about evil bikers is strange.

Couey had a very long boo-hoo article in the St. Pete Times about his twisted childhood. But he fucking BURIED HER ALIVE AFTER RAPING HER.

Give me a break.

10. it's a mentality that feeds on itself....
outrage is natural, but our society sees fit to murder 650 thousand iraqis, burying hundreds of innocent children alive in the act - maybe we should look in at ourselves to get at the root of the hate problem?
twisted childhoods damage lotsa people, turn them into drunks or addicts or lunatics - maybe in couey's case it made him a rapo killer of a lil girl(?)

14. This is why victims and their families have limited / no legal rights in these circumstances
Justice should be meted out by an impartial third party, not the aggrieved.

to mete out much tougher sentences, NATIONWIDE for sex offenders/predators.

Let me guess... they're argument goes something like: "TOUGH ON CRIME!!!1!!1!!one"

How about we have rational discussions about policy, rather than increasing sentences by five years every time something horrible happens?

16. Amen, sister.... give me a break, indeed!
Some of the responses here have astonished me. I guess the outrage is because it's bikers involved. We all know they're just a bunch of dirty, lazy good for nothings who drink, raise hell and sell drugs, right? :sarcasm:

I wonder what the responses would have been if it were an antique car club, a group of pickup truck enthusiasts, or bicycle riders that did this.

Keep the focus on the criminal and the crime, people. This piece of human waste raped a little girl, then buried her alive, to die in a most horrific way! I'd kill the son of a bitch myself, given half the chance. My 10 y/o niece was molested 2 years ago. They found the scumbag that did it in the woods, dead from 19 self inflicted stab wounds. Pedophiles deserve no sympathy at all... murderous pedophiles don't deserve to live, period.

15. Until the killer becomes one of yours.
I have more sympathy for the parents of the child than I do for the parents of the rapist/killer, but sometimes you have to be objective to understand the full picture. If it was your child who was on trail for committing murder, you would be praying that they did not get the death penalty.

Don't get me wrong, I am against the death penalty most of the time, but there are times that I wonder if I couldn't pull the switch myself. Especially if the person admits they did it, the crime is like this one, the court found him guilty and sentenced him to death, and if the authorities would find a way to do it humanely. John Wayne Gacy is one of those cases. Saying this does not make me proud, but it does make me honest.
