Pizza pan delivers message from God
Faithful: Pizza pan delivers message from God
06:13 PM CST on Friday, February 23, 2007
By Dan Lauck / KHOU-TV

They say God works in mysterious ways. And so it was on Wednesday -- yes, Ash Wednesday -- some kitchen workers at Pugh Elementary were cleaning up. When the pizza pan was cleaned, this image resembling the Virgin Mary appeared.

It was Lupe Rodriguez's day to scrub the pans and fight the burned-on stains. "I started looking at it like this, y'know," she said. The stain was emerging, growing more familiar until... she couldn't believe what she was seeing. "It showed me like the Virgin Mary," Rodriguez said.

She showed it around the kitchen. Her co-workers agreed. It was the Virgin Mary.

So a shrine was set up on Hahlo (yes, it sounds like halo) Street and the pilgrammage has begun from nearby neighorhoods. A friend stopped Anel Villarreal in the street Wednesday with the news. "The Virgin is in the cafeteria and run over there and see," Villareal said. "'Oh My God, it's the Virgin.' And I'm crying and I see for my eyes." ...

1. If I were unscrupulous
I'd forge an image of Jesus/The Virgin Mary on some ordinary thing and make a crapload of money of people who are gullible enough to fall for that silliness.

2. OK...
:eyes: It's always the devoutly religious that see these "miraculous" visions in normal everyday objects. It couldn't be that they're LOOKING for something, ANYTHING that affirms their beliefs, could it? And why does the virgin mother insist in revealing herself in such odd and arbitrary ways? Why doesn't she stop hiding on pizza pans and in grilled cheese sandwiches? Shouldn't she just manifest herself in human form in front of a crowd of both believers and non-believers to remove all doubt of here existence? Always the shy coquette, that Virgin Mary. ;)
For the record, I've never seen squeegee marks, grilled cheese sandwiches, pizza stains or any other "miraculous" images in my entire life. Then again, I'm not looking for them. Maybe I'm being punished and blinded by satan? Ya' think?
I wonder how much this will fetch on ebay?

6. Born again girl friend channels messages from boyfriend's dead mother!
Are religious extremists dangerously delusional, or simply diabolically manipulative? Or both? A friend's college student son (this kid is sweet, naive, and prior to this young woman, totally sexually inexperienced) has been seduced by a very pretty, born-again young woman who clerks at the mega grocery store where my friend's son works part-time in the pharmacy. Her sole goal in life/obsession is to marry and have lots of babies for god's glory. Her previous boyfriend wisely got out of Dodge, so she moved on. In addition to sending her pastor to proselytize my friend's son while he's working in the pharmacy, she tells the son that she/girl friend has spoken with son's dead mother, who says she (dead mother) is so happy in Heaven, knowing her baby is being taken care of by girl friend, and wants son to marry said girl friend! Other manipulations too numerous to mention.

Son vacillates between total panic/tears at the mess he's gotten himself in to re this relationship, and glassy-eyed sexual euphoria. He's also rather afraid of the girl and her born-again, gun-toting father! Girl-friend has even "jokingly" suggested that they "off your (widowed)dad" to get money so it won't matter whether son ever finishes college, and they can get married right away. Son says he's planning on how to end relationship, but meanwhile, keeps giving in to the Joy of Sex.

11. I wonder if the dead mother had any hot stock tips, too?

When I worked as a cashier in a convenience store, I of course sold lots of lotto tickets. One of the most interesting stories I got was the guy who claimed he went to spiritualist seances, specifically to get the next winning lotto numbers from his long-dead aunt. I hope at least his winnings could offset the cost of going to the psychic palm-reader on a weekly basis.

He probably got just a bunch of dead numbers.

16. He better wear a condom EVERY TIME, or he's gonna be a dad
here real soon, and then the manipulation REALLY begins. She sounds like a sociopath, and he better get out fast.

9. things were so much simpler when the pagan worshiped a Sun God
At least you didn't need to look for images in pots and pans when God was sitting high and mighty in the sky most of the day. Heck, you could even be blind and feel the presence of the Sun God, even on a winter day.

Or imagine a complex religion with a hundred different gods and goddesses. I'm sure you would have a field day looking for their images in whatever you might happen to be staring at, out of boredom or daydreaming.

Hey, come to think of it, yesterday I just saw the god "Minor Oil Drip under Engine Pan", this is surely a sign that from the heavens that I need to do some serious worshipping at the mechanics' shop, which I've been lacking lately. Praise be!

12. Seems the Virgin Mary likes to appear .....
on objects involving food. Maybe she's telling us our salvation lies in eating lots of nice, gooey grilled cheese and pepperoni pizza. Sounds good to me!

13. This Middle Ages hokus pocus
used to be the sort of thing you would only read about in the National Enquirer.

Its a testament to the descent of the media that it is seen on the 'news'

20. Did anyone look at the photo of what she saw?

That does not look like the Virgin Mary to me, this is about as credible of a news story as the stuff you read in the Weekly World News.
