HELP! I met a Gold Star mom today.
Edited on Thu Jan-31-08 06:10 PM by elehhhhna
A business acquaintance told me today that she lost a son in Iraq in December '06. She's quite possibly a republican (this IS Texas, after all) so I'd like to know of there's a group of Gold Star moms who are apolitical (is that even possible?). PM me or post here please if you know anyone. I'd like to suggest she get in touch with them. Her heart is broken.

2. I don't think Gold Star Moms are a political group--I'm sure they fall
on both sides of the war, and on both sides of the political spectrum--their children's service and their grief are what unites them. I don't think you have to worry about politics, because my impression was that it's more a support group and a way to honor their sacrifice to our country.

5. American Gold Star Mothers website

I'm sure they're not political, inasmuch as can be expected. This Snopes article will reassure you in that respect:

It is very good of you to extend compassion to this lady.

11. Thank you, Lasher. It's so strange to have been sales-calling this very together woman
and then find she's not at all as she appears.

7. make sure you tell your friend not to show support for the war
if she is still for it. As apolitical group you can get, you can't expect people to not get upset if people favor the cause of "their" childs death. just saying.
