Kucinich puts off effort to impeach Bush

The (Cleveland) Plain Dealer Politics Blog
Posted by Sabrina Eaton

After promising last week that he'd mark President Bush's final "State of the Union" speech today by introducing articles of impeachment against Bush, Cleveland Democratic Rep. Dennis Kucinich announced he's postponing the effort.

Kucinich said he met with members of the House Judiciary Committee after making last week's impeachment pledge on the House of Representatives floor, and came away "hopeful there will be an inquiry by the Judiciary Committee."

......................

Kucinich told The Plain Dealer editorial board last week that nine members of the House Judiciary Committee favor his bid to impeach Cheney. But that's shy of a majority; the committee has 23 Democrats and 17 Republicans.

"I do not believe that there will be an impeachment this year — I don't think that will happen - but I do think that the questions relating to an inquiry of both the president and the vice president are important so that our nation has a real understanding of the effort that was made, a consistent effort, to mislead the people into supporting a war," Kucinich said.

1. I'm glad someone is trying to hold them accountable...they're using
the fact that DK is to try and knock him out of Congress. Keep up the fight!

2. He's Got More Problems To Deal With Now
As I posted the other day, the impeachment ball now appears to belong to Rob Wexler...a member on the Judiciary Committee who has been gathering the signatures and trying to get people on board. Dennis has a tough primary ahead...just hanging on to his seat is his priority right now.

As usual...the votes just aren't there...and it appears even Kucinich now believes that trying to impeach during an election year is a non-starter. Unfortunately the votes aren't even in the Judiciary Committee and that's where the impeachment game starts. Wexler stands a far better chance of moving this along and understands what impeachment really means. It means getting real criminal charges to work with...and those charges may not be able to be brought until after this regime is gone and can neither pardon themselves or waive executive privilidge.

Here's hoping Dennis wins re-election so he can be around to get onboard when the real accounting of this regime begins...if anything, his voice will be needed more than ever if a Democratic majority and President is elected...pushing for de-facto impeachements and on-going investigations into ALL the criminals and criminality of this regime.
