American Oil companies offered five million dollars to each Iraqi MP to pass the Oil law
An Iraqi MP preferred to remain anonymous told the newspaper that highly confidential negotiations took place by representatives from American oil companies, offering $5 million to each MP who votes in favor of the Oil and Gas law.

The amount that could be paid to pass the votes do not exceed $150 million dollars in the case of $5 million to each MP, pointing out that the Oil law requires 138 votes to pass, which the Americans want to guarantee in many ways, including vote-buying, intimidation and threats!

Focusing on the heads of parliamentary blocs and influential figures in the parliament to ensure the votes, the Americans guaranteed the Kurdish votes in advance but they are seeking enough votes to pass and approve the law as soon as possible.

Haven't seen story in U.S. M$M, it is reported exclusively in international sites.

2. Only $5 million?
Edited on Wed Jan-30-08 07:28 PM by Maat
With record oil company profits, I'd want more than that ... if I were inclined to take a bribe (which I'm not, Agent Mike; that would be illegal, of course :P ).

12. Everything Is Legal In *Co World ........
if this is going to happen - I hope the MP's hold out for a lot more money.

And this is going to happen - *Co needs this to happen before he leaves office.

While we're arguing about 'handshakes at the SOTU' this is what's going on behind our backs. *Co diversion.

I didn't get the whole story - but I understand that * executed some very damaging 'signing statements'. Heard something on Tom Hartman's show - but couldn't listed to the whole story.

3. And it still hasn't passed?
I'm impressed.

If I were the Iraqis, I'd send a hit squad to every house that took the money.

4. Democracy in action.
We've given the Iraqis the finest government money can buy. Just like here at home. Guess we really are passing along our most sacred values.

11. Exactly what I thought when I read it.
Good old murkan style democracy, i.e., government by the bribed and for the rich.

8. All three links refer to the same anonymous source and story...
this may be true, but it would be nice to see it confirmed by another source.

15. The story could very well be true and would not surprise me in the
least, however when I see three links all pointing to the same story with an anonymous source it raises questions for me.

And of the four links you posted the last three all refer to the same newspaper.

While the first link looks interesting I do not see that it mentions this new bribe???

Iraq Oil: The Vultures are Waiting

Index Research

This article first published on 3/9/07

Again I do not doubt the story is true, just saying some additional confirmation would be prudent.

I have posted numerous times on the draft Iraq Oil Law and the fact that none of the candidates have dared to touch on this issue, except Kucinich and maybe Gravel (not sure).

;)

14. But if American oil companies get access to all that Iraqi oil...
then they will pass the windfall on to us, the American consumers, in the form of lower gas prices.
