A very curious statement Bush made in the SOTU address last night
I admit to having the TV on and watching, with some weary relief, President Smirksalot's last SOTU address. While most of the speech was devoted to distorting the reality of his record and sticking it to the American people, my ears picked up on one sentence in the speech (and I paraphrase): "and Al Qaida still has plans to attack us here in Washington". WTF???? Did I hear that right? Where's the evidence of that and why hasn't this been a topic of chatter on the Washington pundit scene? Or could this be another veiled threat by these criminals to extort their FISA immunity legislation?

1. Bush doesn't need evidence. He said it... so it must be true.

I couldn't say that with a straight face.

4. Scare Tactic
Bush's constant theme has been "Be Afraid. Terror. Be Very Afraid. Terrorists! Be even more afraid. Terrorists! Be super afraid. Terror. Are you afraid yet? Terrorists are coming!"

He's just saying the same old tired stuff he's been saying.

5. Since when has evidence ever been needed by the Junta?
Al-Qaida still has plans to attack them there in Washington because it is politically useful for the Junta to pretend that a terrorist attack on the nation's capital is imminent. It is nothing more than the usual, "Terra! Terra! (Shop till you drop!) Terra!" that has been part-and-parcel to this misAdministration since 9/11.

Not to sound like a conspiracy theorist or anything :tinfoilhat: but it also is the first "priming of the pump" for a last-resort scenario: Actually staging a terrorist attack (or what the media can be made to present as a terrorist attack) on the capital just before the election. This could be done to embarass the Democrats or even allow declaration of a "national emergency" with the national elections postponed until "the emergency has been dealt with."

9. this is what he said:
"By contrast, a failed Iraq would embolden the extremists, strengthen Iran, and give terrorists a base from which to launch new attacks on our friends, our allies, and our homeland. The enemy has made its intentions clear. At a time when the momentum seemed to favor them, al Qaida's top commander in Iraq declared that they will not rest until they have attacked us here in Washington."

Edited on Tue Jan-29-08 04:13 PM by calimary
I read that quote and think - "what the hell do you mean, 'WOULD'? All that stuff that "WOULD" happen if Iraq failed has already occurred:
1) extremists emboldened
2) Iran strengthened
3) terrorists have been given a base from which to launch new attacks

He made ALL OF THIS happen with his stupid fucking unnecessary war!

PS: my take on it, fyi -
