10. but a 10 degree slope is a lot easier to get back up
frankly, Bush has taught us that sometimes the worse of two evils is so bad that it makes the "lesser" seem to much better (thinking of the Nader argument here).

"There's an old saying in Tennessee — I know it's in Texas, probably in Tennessee — that says, fool me once, shame on — shame on you. Fool me — you can't get fooled again."

I think that says it all. If someone hates Clinton or Obama or whomever is the nominee so much that they would vote third party and allow someone who wants to make the US more theocratic then I have to question their logic.

11. my metaphor
when combined with the knowledge that our top candidates are handpicked by the media/DNC/corporations our choice will always be chosen for us and will always never represent the american people. Ultimatly 10 degree downward slope that never changes to an upward slope will take you as far down as the 40% one. Get ya their slow or get ya their fast, your still going down baby.

17. we the people have more power than you give us credit for
granted most are more than willing to be dumped down the slope, but not all of us. I agree with your point, but frankly would rather have the chance of turning the car around than instantly falling off a cliff.

5. The quotation is absolutely correct. And if the Democrats win in
November, I won't cheer; I'll be glad the Republicans lost, but I won't cheer...

6. Applies to the "practicality/ideals" debate
but evil isn't absolute anyway, so you're always choosing the lesser of two evils.

And who's the evil one this time? Can't be Al Gore cause he was evil in 2000 and evil ones take turns.

12. This is only a problem if one controls...
all the choices.

Since I don't control all the choices leading up to the one where I see two evils, going for the lesser one does make sense.

(Unless both of then are really, really, evil and I don't have to choose.)

ALL the time in daily life.

25. Win what?

It's not a game. It's that stupid mind set that keeps us in a rut. Accepting the choices provided for us by the monied elite is no choice at all. We continue to get the same old shit, and our "choice" is our complicicy in our own abuse.

"May I have another, sir?"

26. Good luck with that.
My guess is electing a Democrat is more likely than overthrowing a bloody revolution, but I can admire a person willing to go for a longshot.

21. I'm through with holding my nose
No longer will I pick someone I think will do less harm, I may be wrong, that lesser pick may turn out to be the greater. If I'm offered a choice between luke warm shit and warm shit I think I'll pass and go into oblivion with a clear conscience.

23. time to take back the system
...where do all of these choices that can only be described as the 'lesser' of anything come from? They come from us, for us, to do what they want to us...because we let them! The goddam Grapes of Wrath have reached through the 'middle class'. "We are the People"...when, and how long ago was that?

24. Cartoonish simplification of all alternative choices as "evil" is the root problem ...
... with the concept.

"Choosing the better of two bad choices" might be a less prejudiced way of phrasing the question.

not being a smart-ass or anything, but I always figured people who said they were choosing the lesser of two evils understood they were still choosing evil.

29. Okay. But if anything, Jerry was a small-l libertarian.
Saw a bird with a tear in his eye
Walking to New Orleans my oh my
Hey, now, Bird, wouldn't you rather die
Than walk this world when you're born to fly?

If I was the sun, I'd look for shade
If I was a bed, I would stay unmade
If I was a river I'd run uphill
If you call me you know I will
If you call me you know I will

Ooo, freedom
Ooo, liberty
Ooo, leave me alone
To find my own way home
To find my own way home

Say what I mean and I don't give a damn
I do believe and I am who I am
Hey now Mama come and take my hand
Whole lotta shakin' all over this land

If I was an eagle I'd dress like a duck
Crawl like a lizard and honk like a truck
If I get a notion I'll climb this tree
or chop it down and you can't stop me
Chop it down and you can't stop me

Ooo, freedom
Ooo, liberty
Ooo, leave me alone
To find my own way home
To find my own way home

Went to the well but the water was dry
Dipped my bucket in the clear blue sky
Looked in the bottom and what did I see?
The whole damned world looking back at me

If I was a bottle I'd spill for love
Sake of mercy I'd kill for love
If I was a liar I'd lie for love
Sake of my baby I'd die for love
Sake of my baby I'd die for love

Ooo, freedom
Ooo, liberty
Ooo, leave me alone
To find my own way home
To find my own way home
I'm gonna find my own way home

30. An excuse for apathy, IMO
I loved ol Jerry, but I think he'd have a different opinion after the last seven years of Dumbo The Clown's reign of terra. It's like watching a car try to back out of an icy parking space, it slips, spins, slides sideways...then it catches and out you go! Never give up. "Life is change, see how it differs from the rocks..."
