I'm going to be offline for several weeks after my surgery

I'm home and flying on Hydrocodone. My case nurse informed me this morning I will probably miss 6-8 months of work. It will be a painful recovery from shoulder reconstruction. It is much worse than I initially understood yesterday. I won't be able to type for awhile afterwards, so no DU etc... I don't see the orthopedic surgeon until tomorrow. I will be sure the operation is scheduled AFTER the Feb. 9th caucus. It is too important to miss. I'll keep everybody up to date as soon as I get more info.

Here is some of the story I posted yesterday: http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=367x7030

Regards,

Omaha Steve

12. You will be in our thoughts and prayers!
I have heard of people who can type, write, and paint using their toes!! Maybe you should start practicing now....Place the keyboard on the floor and put a pencil between your toes!! Anyone who will make sure their operation is after the caucus will be willing to try the aforementioned suggestion!! LOL! May your recovery be speedy and your pain be relieved. Blessings and peace.

What a horrible story. I hope everything works out for you and that you are not gone from us for too long. I don't know if we can get by without you!!!

If there is some method you use to post your labor updates, I would be happy to try to keep that going for you.

Please keep us informed!!

15. Get well soon
and... you do carry health insurance that will pay for most of it, I hope.

Hope you will be able to participate in the Nebraska caucus Feb. 9th and that Edwards will still be in the race.

20. You can always use voice dictation like Naturally Speaking or MacSpeech.
If you can use a mouse, you can use an onscreen keyboard. If you are on a Mac I can show you how to bring up the onscreen keyboard. If you are on a Mac you can also use Ink, a built in application that recognizes handwriting.

Seriously, I hope you have a speedy recovery. I scheduled my cataract surgery for this Friday, so I can actually see my ballot next Tuesday!!

23. oh, Steve- that is too bad
I missed your story from yesterday. I hope that it goes well.

I'm in a similar boat, I fell - at home- in my uniform on December 27. I hit my shoulder really hard and finally got an MRI done. The results show that I have a bad tear in my rotor cuff. It sucks because I can not do my job right now, being a letter carrier. I was off for the first couple of weeks, but now the POst Office is letting me do light duty, something they don't have to do. I am not working any overtime though, when I used to work anywhere from 8-20 hours more weekly to supplement my income. I am just waiting for a referral to an orthopaedic surgeon now, to decide on surgery or physical therapy.

Okay, enough about me- I can just sympathize with you.

Please keep us posted and I hope that you heal fast!

27. Remember my story about my daughter Bobbi from last December?

Perhaps you remember my posts from December about my oldest daughter from a previous relationship that was put up for adoption? Our first meeting was last December. She is in her last year of studies to be a physicians assistant. She is actually in her orthopedics classes and assisting in surgery at this time. I haven't heard back from her yet since I sent her the results of my MRI. She did get me a prescription of a new lotion that contains an anti-inflammatory in it, so it doesn't cause stomach problems down the road. I guess she found me at the right time. :-)
