hospitalinfection.org
A website that was mentioned on GayUSA, in regards to the MRSA USA300 bacterium bullshit. It is NOT just for us Gaus, it just so happens that this bacterium is everywhere.

Check it out, you might find it useful.

1. Thank you very much
My daughter is delivering in two months and I just sent her the link. Better to do as much prevention as possible. Reading over the steps, it mostly looks like staying vigilant on cleanliness is the key. I'm sure you will have helped a lot of people with your post. Thanks again.

3. To be fair...
It's not just hospitals. There are many public places that are equally concerning. For example gym locker rooms, public restrooms, restaurants, and airports. And yes good hand hygiene is very important.

5. Huh?
MRSA is being touted as a "Gay" disease? -- I'm not sure I even know how to respond to that. The folks doing that are just.....well........assinine is too mild a word.........

Good link. It was my biggest worry while in and out of hospitals and nursing homes between 2000 and 2005. I was more afraid of MRSA than I was never walking again. Really.

6. How amenable are doctors and hospitals to these sorts of requests?
All of the points on the site seem like great advice, but how hostile are health care providers going to be if you interject 'aggressively' on each of these points as they recommend and appear to second guess the staff and question their competence? I could see this engendering quite a bit of resentment between the parties, possibly complicating recovery as a result of anything from stress to spiteful retaliation by the staff.

I've been both subject and witness to some pretty hair raising behavior on the part of medical 'professionals' over the years, to the tune of several people being killed as a result of negligence.

I'm not saying that any of the suggestions given shouldn't be followed, just that there seems to be no discussion of the sort of response you can expect or the possible backlash it might entail. It seems akin to criticizing the chef before you get the meal. Risky business.

Has anyone had experiences of this type they can share?
