The Return Of The Rockefeller Republicans?
In last night's debate, Republican Mike Huckabee suggested that a better stimulus program might be to create two more lanes to I-95 thruthe entire eastern United States. That would have been a brave liberal proposal for a Democrat to make but this was coming from a Republican. Something is happening with the Republican Party but no one has had the nerve to point out that the Party may be developing a "liberal" wing much like it had with the Nelson Rockefeller Republicans pre-Ronald Reagan. Depending on how well Huckabee does going forward, this could be historically significant.

Had it been left up to them, we wouldn't have ever had an interstate road system in the US.

Huck's statement that "no bridges fell in Arkansas" got their panties in a wad...

If he wasn't all for a Constitutional Theocracy he would be OK. He is no "Rockefeller Republican".

Remember all the asking why working class repubs vote against their economic interests? Well, Huckabee is their man.

3. But the amazing thing to me is that no Democrat...
has the courage to make such a proposal, for fear of being called a "big-spending liberal".

2. I used to be a Rockefeller Republican
And ol' Arkansas Huckles may pay lip service to the occasional bright idea, but the primitive religious fundamentalism drags him back down into the Republican Party of the present.
