I DON'T WANT A $1200.00 LOAN
Edited on Thu Jan-24-08 05:48 PM by Patmccccc
If this is actually what happened AGAIN why aren't more people upset? I was sooooo pissed off in 2001 when I found out, after I spent it, that I had to pay the whole thing back in 2002.

2. Are you sure that's what it is again?
I've seen no evidence in the press reports that these are "advances" on the 2008 tax bill.

7. No... I am not sure
I pray it isn't a loan like in 2001. Because this hasn't be clarified anywhere and no one in here seems to know anything I think they might have gotten away with it AGAIN. I am surprised that more aren't angry about this. Bait and switch... this is BULLSHIT! imo

4. I think we should have the option of taking it.. I'd choose not to at this time.
or I'd tell them to use it to pay off my husband's back taxes he owes.. we only have a little bit left, but I'd like it to go their first. And I'd hate the idea of it being taxed back later on.

5. there's no such thing as a free 1200, unless the EITC applies to a person.
Or you win the lottery, or law suit...

6. The entire premise seems ludicrous to me. What, exactly, do they think
will happen as a result of this "windfall"? People will pay their rent and utilities, stock up on food, and that's about all it will cover - if even that.

I honestly don't understand how this little bit can make a difference in our economy.

8. My memory isn't what it used to be but didn't they get all sneaky with the tax forms in 2002
Edited on Thu Jan-24-08 06:03 PM by Lone_Star_Dem
...to cover that you were paying back your rebate?

I wish I could recall exactly what it was. I seem to think they didn't implement a tax break on the form that was in effect in 2002 until the 2003 tax forms.

13. While it's not yet been said that we'll be paying it back on our 2008 taxes
They're going to have to take the money back from us one way or another. Since no one has been talking about it publicly, (as in dividing it up into two or more tax years to repay) I'm suspicious that they're planning to go with the same routine.

Most think it is free money. They need to be up front that this is a loan, To avoid hardship (people just spend it thinking it is a gift from the gov then "WHAM" are hit later with a bill).

15. I have yet to see a clear explanation of whether this is just an
an advance on a future refund (or an addition to what one will owe) or is real money.

16. I'd Rather A Vet Or Senior Citizen
get their meds for free, or schools in rural South Carolina were rebuilt and actually had de Better yet, take this money and set up get universal health care up and running so that people don't become homeless if their insurance company won't shit for a short hospital stay. Just think if we had health insurance, just how much we could spend on other things.

18. I was over at Hannity's forum the other day
They don't believe it is a loan. They say that in 2001, they added another tax bracket so your taxes were lowered by that amount. They don't think this will figure into your year end calculations either. Try to tell them that you will have to pay it back unless they change the year end tax tables, they just don't believe it. Of course, they think the surge is working too.
