My $800 check lost $200 in the recession! "Congress & W.H agree upon checks of $600 per individual"
WASHINGTON (CNN) -- American taxpayers would get checks of several hundred dollars from the government under a plan to stimulate the economy, sources said Thursday.

Congressional leaders of both parties were talking with their membership to sell the plan, sources said.

Sources on Capitol Hill and at the Treasury Department said congressional and White House negotiators agreed upon checks of $600 per individual and $1,200 per couple.

A Democratic aide and Republican aide said there will be an additional amount per child, which could be in the neighborhood of $300. Checks could be in taxpayers' mailboxes by June, according to an Associated Press report.

Hold your breath -'free money' check is almost in the mail

The check is in the mail. Well, almost. Maybe by June. That's how long it likely will take the government's "swift" proactive response to stave off a recession by sending Americans an $800 tax-rebate check. Will Americans immediately spend the money, hopefully to stimulate the economy? I just hope Americans don't shred the check, thinking it's a scam along with all the "free money" checks that come in the mail.

3. OK, then you only have to subtract $600 from whatever refund you were going to get anyway
That is all this is you know, just an advanced refund, just like last time.

6. And I never get a refund. I always have to pay.
Which means I will have to pay back the rebate plus my taxes. I will be sending the check back with a big FU on the envelope.

7. Yep, it likely means smaller check OP has to write in April of 09
And let us not forget that in April of 09, the DEMs will be in the WH and more numerous on the Hill. Sadly, too many Americans will have forgotten who wrote those checks on their own accounts and people will be mad as hell at 'the gubmint', which will be mostly DEM by the time the bill for this rebate IOU comes back to bite all of us on the ass.

$600 now which most will use to pay bills (to the corporations) or buy much needed goods (from the corporations). Then, come April 09, people will pay for that all over again when they find out their withholdings didn't cover the tax bill with that added amount of the 'rebate'.

Just more taxpayer paid corporate welfare AND a sure fire way of securing voter anger against the party that will be in power across the board when the tax bills come due to pay for this gift.

It is more CORPORATE WELFARE and more weight to the burden the working class already carries.

8. Considering the state the banks are in, it might be wiser to buy vegetable seed
and birdshot.
