I just caught Rachel Maddow and Keith Olbermann, discussing IMPEACHMENT!
My head is spinning. Rachel said, how can you not impeach?

Olbermann went through the 935 instances from two independent sources where this admin lied. My gosh! It was precious, and disgusting, and telling.

Great show.

as if they are reading each other's mind.

I grabbed one from the NYT and added it above. DU is moving too fast for me to find anything with my connection!

10. Impeachment could actually prevent justice
that might could be dispensed more effectively after they're out of office and can't pardon
themselves. Is that a crazy thought? After all the one real attempt at justice was Scooter Libby and look what happened.

11. No, its not crazy. I've considered it too.

I still like the idea of Kucinich moving forward. If nothing else, it gives junior and friends a scare and keeps it all fresh in the voters minds. I'd rather see them end up before The Hague.

17. The British are looking into Blair's complicity in moulding the terrorist/
WMD info before going into Iraq. If Britian is pursuing it, so can we.

And I agree -- fuck the impeachment -- put them on trial. I really like the idea of the Hague on War Crimes. Wouldn't several countries be able to participate?

18. I'm sort of in the Tony Blair is The Antichrist club, so its good to hear he's being looked into.
:)

I think the ICC at The Hague might be the venue. But the dates may disqualify it. I'm sure there is recourse somewhere with The Hague. With multi-national participation. I'm not sure it will happen, but I sure would support the effort.

12. Preemptive blanket pardons for everyone?
Edited on Thu Jan-24-08 01:22 AM by lurky
On the last day in office. Either he pardons himself, or steps down on the last day and lets Cheney pardon him. You know they have a whole team of lawyers working on this.

Edited to add: I just have a feeling they are all going to slip slide their way out of here as soon as the term is over.

14. The new regime will want to look forward, not backward.
If we don't hold this criminal cabal to account now, it's not going to happen.

16. Once Impeached & Indicted the power to pardon goes out the window, along with
all other presidential powers, no? Indictment = removal from office, no? No office, no authority to pardon anyone, including self I would think.

I could easily be wrong here, but would like to see where, if so. That's what I love about DU .. I'm either right, or I learn alot by learning how
I am wrong. .. a real win/win in my book.

20. Impeachment is only the beginning.
There would still have to be a trial in the Senate, and only upon conviction (67 votes in the Senate) would he be removed from office.

The President's pardon power continues up until the moment he leaves or is removed from office.

21. Maybe "indicted" was the wrong word.
What I meant by that is that the Senate would find Bush/Cheney guilty and they'd be removed from office.

I feel the "we don't have the votes in the Senate" argument is without merit...since without a full investigation that
publicly lays out the case in a way that can no longer be ignored and spun into oblivion by the WH noise machine would
tip the scales in the Senate ultimately.

They "didn't have the votes" in the Senate with Nixon either before the hearings started and exposed the dirt.

19. I woul'd think it was fine if the final verdict of Bush/Cheney impeachment
came down within minutes of his leaving the Whitehouse for the final time on Jan 28, 2009. Impeachment proceedings would at least tie their hands from committing further crimes and an indictment would send a powerful message to the world and repukes
