At this moment my (wonderful, progressive) State Senator is announcing a bill that would make sure women who get abortions do not face criminal prosecution. It sends a chill down my spine that this has to be done.

Bill Would Protect Women’s Health by Repealing Unconstitutional Criminal Abortion Statute
MADISON – Legislative Democrats will hold a news conference on Tuesday to announce the launch of the Women’s Health and Safety Act, which is currently circulating for co-sponsorship. The news conference will be held on Tuesday, January 22nd at 9:30 a.m., in the Assembly Parlor, at the State Capitol.
The Women’s Health and Safety Act would repeal Wisconsin’s 1849 criminal abortion ban, which remains on the books. The 158-year-old law imposes jail time on women who obtain an abortion, even those who are victims of sexual assault or who are experiencing serious health problems. The antiquated statute would be enforced immediately if Roe v. Wade were to be reversed — a very real threat given the current composition of the U.S. Supreme Court.
