Why political opportunists don't inspire loyalty. It's very simple:

All you have to do is become "useful" at some future point in time, and you're back in their good graces.

So, no, I have no compunction about acting out of principle during the primaries. Worst case scenario, I make myself "useful enough" to the opportunists in the Oval that I can come in from out of the cold.
