Edwards: 'I got my butt kicked'

(CNN) — After a crushing loss in Nevada's Democratic caucuses Saturday, presidential candidate John Edwards said Sunday that he hopes "what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas."

Edwards placed a distant third in the vote, with just 4 percent of the vote, behind Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama.

“I got my butt kicked. That is what happened in Nevada,” the former North Carolina senator told Wolf Blitzer on CNN’s Late Edition. “And the job for me now is — I have learned this from my whole life experience, is when you get knocked down, you have got to get up. You have got to get up and start fighting again…

“I would kind of like to go back to the old Las Vegas saying, though. You know, ‘what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas’? I hope that turns out to be true in this case.”

Instead of campaigning in Nevada in the days before Saturday’s vote, Edwards focused instead on stumping in his birth state of South Carolina, where he won the 2004 primary.

1. No kidding

If it had been a primary, he would have taken about 12%, from the figures i worked out from the exit polls. So not much better really.

He's right it was an asskicking.

28. They truely are a joke - the candidates are already bought and chosen FOR us...
...we have little say in the matter. If we did, Kucinich/Edwards would be where HillBama currently is - or at least well within the goddamned picture - but they've been shut out by the corprats who own and control the "elections" (such as they are). The corprat edict is to make sure they are NOT seen or heard.

30. Love Edwards. I prefer a man who's honest about losing than one who lies about winning...
...like GWB (& friends) did.

It's the ones who are honest who ought to be in the White House.

And the ones who lie about winning, then shove their way into power on family name, disingenuous corprat and family influence, big-bully playground games, and corprat dollars ought to be in a white room with padded walls and a straightjacket. I see the Clintons picking up on those Rovian tactics too, and I am NOT impressed. Disgusted, actually. It shows zero integrity. It's tacky and sad.

As for Mr. Obama - after 8 years of utter destruction, we need someone who can get in there and KICK SOME ROYAL ASS and clean this mess up NOW. I don't think Mr. Smooth Talker-'bridge-builder' (hellooo - those guys are CRIMINALS and PSYCHOPATHS - you do NOT negotiate with them - it's been tried!) is gonna cut it.

IMO, John Edwards is the ONLY DEMOCRAT who is running for President.

The other two - DLC, already bought and controlled by the corprats, and part of the problem.

11. The Edwards Campaign did NOT RUN a single TV or Radio Ad in Nev...
Which was a wise decision since that money could be spent elsewhere and bring a bigger return in electoral votes.

Edwards can start by ditching his anti-gun rhetoric...
Telling law-abiding citizens that you're going to restrict their rights simply because they uphol the law is no way to win the nomination, IMHO.

40. Most gun owners don't own rifles.
See: John Kerry's hunting fiasco in 2004.

Most gun owners own handguns and any talk of taking away handguns (not rifles) makes them uneasy.

41. If you are a law abiding citizen
I don't see why the govt shouldn't trust you to own whichever gun you like. I believe when you leave your property and enter everyone else's property, then the govt has the right to restrict what weapons you carry.

Good grief, what is wrong with people that they can't see it?

Personally, I think people really fear change. It's an unknown. They'd rather hold out for something just a little bit better than what they've got. After all, they're making it, right? (Some aren't making it, though.)

It takes courage, guts, and sheer will to face change, and that's what John Edwards has done, and that's what his supporters are doing by not bailing ship. When the going gets tough, the tough get going and we've got to get out there and kick a few butts ourselves to make sure people GET IT.

Because people surely are not getting it. Whether through media blackout, or whatever, they must GET IT or we're all doomed to another 4/8 years of mediocrity in government, and change on the surface, but nothing changed structurally.

EDWARDS IS IT!

25. the disconnect is soo obvious, with injury to public interest the eagerly sought prize!
WTF is with the public? How can a nation which THINKS it was attacked by badguys on 911 and, using only contrived hocus-pocus logic given them by bush about the 911 badguys to invade innocent little Iraq, at the cost of 3500 american lives and untold billions, yet this same public can not recognise the public injury to them, their kids, their futures, and inflicted intentionally by the same newsmedia which talked them into the war, not to mention the seating of junyer bush in the hothouse back in the first place, must be rejected, or the mess we're in gonna get awful, as in biblical terms awful??
this mystery shurely must be easy to solve: could SOMEONE please ask any nearby media newsperson passing by 'wtf'? and post their answer here sometime within next 48 hours? i'd do it myself but i'm stuck to a baseball bat that needs a good wash....

31. I have coined a new epigram that
most overall encompasses the unexplainable lack of support for Edwards.

Sheep with rose colored glasses ..... Someone should photoshop the image.

Sheep explains the total lack of depth of understanding and apparent inability or incompetence to research what John stands for in comparison to the others that will continue Good ole Washington as usual. Monopolies running rampant with bought favors and profits continuing to soar.

The rose colored glasses explains the ignorant prism of optimism that if their teevee and Fox News says Clinton or Obama appear to be the most popular and most capable, then it's happy days ahead. Whoo Hoo!!

What assholes. They don't even follow their own conclusions. Nothing more succinctly shows it than the exit poll revealed in New Hampshire. By a margin of two-to-one, voters said Edwards "cared more about people like me than Obama." Yet, the votes went to Obama and Clinton and Edwards is trashed.

If that's not a big WTF, I don't know what is. Sheep. Rose colored Glasses. B-i-i-i-i-i-g surprise comin!

on stated that Edwards is the only one who can beat McCain, as per how FL is lining up for McCain, and for Edwards not to drop out because he will be picking up the votes. He said Edwards is the ONLY one who knows the facts, issues, and is the guy who can win...yes!

43. I have lived in Las Vegas for the past 13 and a half years
and I can honestly say there is an abundant cesspool of stupid people from everywhere who don't care about anything at all. NOTHING at all. They are mindless sheep. Its kinda strange.

My ex participated in the neighborhood caucus. He said 100 people were there 70 Clinton 20 Obama and 10 Edwards. I really don't understand the 4% showing. He had plenty of support when I went to hear him speak at a town hall meeting last Thursday.

Keep fighting John. I have my John Edwards sign proudly displayed on my front yard and its not going anywhere.
