A Band-aid On A Cancer
What are you going to do with $800 tax rebate? Chances are, very little. This President and this Congress has put us so far in the hole, perhaps a trillion dollars might help? But this $800 is worth about one or two months bills for most folks. And most of this rebate will be applied to debt to the banks and the Credit Card companies. Come to think of it, it is a very clever way to bail out the banks on this sub-prime mortgage scandal.

1. For a married couple, it's $1600
That'a a pretty nice chunk of change. It will probably all go toward paying for part of my son's wedding. Theirs will probably go in the bank, as they are saving for a downpayment on a house. My other son plans to buy a PS3.

3. Not everyone will get this rebate
only those who pay income taxes. That means that many who are so poor they don't file won't get anything. And they are the ones who most need it.

If this comes to fruition, I'm thinking of sending part of it to Dennis Kucinich.

13. The working poor will get nothing.
A "federal income tax rebate" misses the bottom 50% ... the people who've borne the greatest burden of the reign of "cheap labor" conservatives and off-shoring greed-merchants.

17. Depends on if it's a one-time credit or advanced rebate. I'm aware of no details.
Either way, however, it'd be based on federal income taxes otherwise owed. That means that the individual would have to earn enough, net of deductions and exemptions, to otherwise pay the amount of the 'stimulus' or more. Virtually anyone earning less than $20K/year would get nothing.

--it's a rebate; if you pay you get back. If you don't pay, you don't get back.

22. How is this a scam??
It's your own money, which you are getting back, to spend (or save) as you see fit.

7. Keep it until I file my 1040 for 2008. . because THAT'S when you'll
have to subtract it from your refund..

Remember that's what they did with the $600 "rebate" last time.... It's 100% BOGUS!!

11. If you want to help the homeless
put pressure on your legislators to spend your tax dollars on them.

Face it, until we stop spending so much money in Iraq, we're not going to get anywhere with this economy.

15. We have to hammer that point home
during this election. There are plenty of Dems in Congress who say the same thing, but they don't bring it up often enough.

I guess the idiot campaign consultants think its a bad idea.

10. Pay bills
Why hasn't it occurred to Bush and the GOP that Americans can't keep the economy going when so much of our income is being spent on high utility bills, health insurance and gasoline prices? Were they really that stupid to think it would have no effect on consumer purchasing?

12. How do you know if you get this rebate?
I've been reading about this and I don't fully understand it. Who qualifies for it? Is it on top of the rebate you would get anyway? I was going to file my taxes next week, because I'm very strapped for money, but maybe I should hold off...?

And if you owe, you now would owe $800 more. All smoke and mirrors.
