Here is what happens when we argue about race

These are from the community where I work and have worked for nearly 30 years. Graffiti has been a problem for awhile now but it is much worse lately and more racial in nature.

Between the immigration debates and the latest round of arguments about electing a Black president, this is the result. For those of you who don't know, 'WP' stands for White Power.

Cross-out the name of the gang and write, "NO!"

Then write, "College Republicans, YES!"

5. I don't see this the same way as you-

THIS is why we need to learn to discuss race without pretending everything's rosy.

I also believe that this is less about the 'argument' and more about the reality that an African American is making a very strong run for the presidency. And that makes some bigots very nervous.

Racism is going to rear its ugly head no matter what- when this country finally elects a leader who is not "white".

It is also sadly not surprising. America seems filled with hate, division and self-absorption.


I agree that the immigration issue is connected.

We are becoming the "ugly American" right here at home.

But we need to be prepared for the ugliness to rear its head.

And whether the 'race arguments' were accidental, or deliberate the way they have been twisted and turned to further any candidate by fellow Dem's, saddens and shames me.

It really exposes the worst in us.

Maybe we need to see this as well. Maybe we can learn from all of this. I sure hope so, I'm getting tired of repeating and repeating the same terrible stuff.
