1. I'll give it a shot
Disney
GE
Viacom
NewsCorp
AOL-Time-Warner

They're the ones that own the networks.

4. Clear Channel
I think they are trying to sell, but are currently #1.

"Two weeks ago, the FCC approved the $19.5 billion sale of Clear Channel Communications Inc. (CCU) to two other private-equity funds."

3. GE owns NBC
Which is announced by the familiar g-e-c notes (for General Electric Company) at station ID. Westinghouse bought CBS, but in an upside down deal, CBS came out on top and dissolved Westinghouse and then became absorbed by Viacom. Clear Channel owns a crapload of TV, radio and billboards, but I am not sure exactly which ones (they seem to be everywhere!)

That's just for starters, hope others will add more.

5. 7 conglomerates
1. AOL/Time Warner. AOL part dropped because of massive scandals. Books, music, internet, television, theme parks, cinemas.

2. Disney. Speciality: children. Movie studios, music, sport, theme parks, television, newspapers.

3. Bertelsmann. Soon: Sony/Bertelsmann because they want to become #1. Started as a Nazi publisher. Magazines, books, music, mobile phones, television.

4. Viacom. Speciality: youth. Television, books, advertising.

5. News Corporation. Rupert Murdoch. Newspapers, sport, television, books.

6. Vivendi/Universal. Music, television, telecommunications, water, garbage, theme parks, internet.

7. General Electric. Television, healthcare, nuclear power plants, aviation, weapons.

12. You're welcome as well
I made a mistake though, because they keep on merging/splitting and changing.

The General Electric part was the Vivendi Universal part who dropped Universal from their name after massive scandals. They did keep the music and European television stations though, however the theme parks and the American television stations were given to GE. And the circus goes on and on...

13. Here's another link:
http://www.cjr.org/resources/
The Columbia Journalism Review's guide to Who-Owns-What. Provides a drop-down menu of media companies and lists their holdings. Looks pretty current, although San Jose Mercury News seemed to be missing from the Mc Clatchy list.
