1. How far we've fallen
Proposing a top marginal rate today of even, say, 50% on income over some ridiculous amount, say, $10 million and up, would be political suicide.

But if top marginal rates of 90%-plus were good enough for Eisenhower, and 70% was good enough for Nixon, why isn't it good enough for today's GOP?

21. Well, he tripled the National Debt in his two years. From $1 trillion to $3 trillion.
And we'll get to pay, along with our children, their children, etc.

18. My Parents got thru the Depression with a progressive income tax, we won WW2 with a progressive inco
The 12 million men & woman that served in the military in WW2 came home, the GI Bill sent vets to college, and they started families. This created the largest, most vigorous and the best educated middle class, in the history of the planet. Labor unions were at the zenith of their power, our eductaional institutions were the envy of the world, corporations made money, the wealthiest made money

3. That was the Graham-Rudman Tax Bill as I recall
At the time it was tauted as a great feat of bi-partisan engineering. Phil Graham of TX (R) & Rudman of VT (D), I believe.

IMHO, this was the exact point when the middle-class took a nose-dive into a downward spiral from which it has never recovered.
And I might add, we may NOT recover unless drastic measures are taken to reverse its disastrous effects.

4. Here's MY chart. (It's better.)

In order to better comprehend - empirically - when we actually had a fairly healthy "Middle Class," all that's necessary is to look at the Gini Ratio ... when it (the blue line) was below 0.38.

11. The CPS only broke out 'Asian' beginning in 2002.
They pretty much track "White" statistically.

15. Thomas Jefferson advocated for a progressive tax
my words, regressive taxation taxes the middle and working classes out of the economy. Just as importantly, the 3 pillars of the middle class are Labor rights, Education rights, and progressive taxation.

12. Pruneface cut corporate profits tax from 50- to 28-percent, too.
As a result, corporations no longer accounted for the majority of federal tax revenues -- individuals do.

more than 70% of the National Debt.

My first DU Rant was all about the debt, and I credit Thom Hartmann for opening my eyes to this issue!
