What will become of the 156 Michigan delegates?
The DNC stripped MI of their delegates.

So what happens this August at the Democratic convention if things are very close?

Do 156 delegates from some place else show up as uncommitted? What if a candidate needs those votes to put him/her over the top?

Thanks in advance for your political know how :hi:

1. As of right now no delegates from MI will be seated, but my guess is at the convention
something will be worked out.

2. I've read they will be seated if, and only if, they do not affect the final outcome.

4. Yep. If they're very, very nice they'll get a seat at the back of the convention bus.
... as long as they shut up and do what they're told. :grr:

7. Since when is an internal party dispute a reason to disenfranchise the VOTERS?
Edited on Wed Jan-16-08 04:35 PM by TahitiNut
Those sure sound like CORPORATE Republican 'ethics' to me. Remember, Michigan is an Open Primary state where ALL voters are disenfranchised ... NOT just party insiders (i.e. employees).

More generally, this is a case where PRIVILEGE is obtaining an 'entitlement' ... where corporate partisans four states (Iowa, New Hampshire, Nevada, South Carolina) have coerced a 'pledge' to deprive the voters in OTHER states from participation according to their own state laws. I regard it as interference with the vote.

8. I think you're right. Both Michigan and Florida will be seated
without penalty. The DNC doesn't want either state to go into the general election harboring any resentments.

3. They will wander in the desert for 40 years, and then they will get a gig as studio musicians.
Sorry. To be honest, I don't have any clue.

6. IF I understand it correctly...Hillary and Uncomitted both had enough votes
to get delegates.

If they are seated, Hillary would get those assigned to her, and the uncommitted delegates are free agents, and would presumbably go to Obama or Edwards. Or Obama and Edwards.
