State Suspends Allstate From Writing New Auto Policies

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. -- Florida Insurance Commissioner Kevin McCarty on Wednesday suspended Allstate companies from writing new automobile insurance policies in Florida for refusing to comply fully with a subpoena from the state.

McCarty abruptly ended a scheduled two-day meeting Tuesday after just two hours. He was angered that Allstate officials failed to turn over some information the state requested on property coverage rates. Company officials had described the state's request as "irrelevant."

Allstate was to have provided documents into its reinsurance program and its relationship with risk modeling companies, insurance trade associations and insurance rating organizations, but instead returned a 51-page letter of objections to the state's subpoena.

"In view of Allstate's ongoing, blatant disregard of our subpoenas, I have little choice," McCarty said Wednesday. "Suspending their certificate of authority to write new business in our state should make my point."

Messages left for Allstate executives to comment on the suspension were not immediately returned.

1. This will get Allstate's attention.... and maybe their compliance with subpoenoes in the future.

2. Insurance companies have too much power...
...over the people.

All of this "You're in Good Hands" stuff applies when your making those premium payments. However,
if something happens, you find out that you're up against a huge company with total power over you,
and usually you get the short end of the stick.

I was recently in a car accident, and I found out very quick that if you don't advocate for yourself
and stand up for your rights, these companies will rob you blind.

The accident was not my fault. I was told that they would "total" my car. They valued it well below
what it would cost to replace. I raised absolute holy hell...but I did it nicely and firmly. After
advocating for myself for several weeks, they repaired my car. The repairs totaled almost $11,000,
and I got what I deserved because I fought like hell for it.

Also, insurance companies try to manipulate you into signing a "Medical Release of Information" form.
Don't EVER, EVER sign this!!! They claim that this form is to obtain your medical records, so they can
help figure out the settlement, as it relates to your injuries. Sounds innocent enough, right?

NO WAY!

This form allows the insurance companies to obtain ALL OF YOUR MEDICAL RECORDS DATING BACK TO YOUR BIRTH!
So, if you sign this and you happened to have back pain 5 years ago, a sports injury or a series of migraines
in 2004---they will use this stuff against you, to try and reduce the amount of your claim!

People need to research this stuff, before they're in an accident.

Sorry for the long post. I could go on even further. However, I think people really need to understand that
your insurance company is not your friend. It's the claims adjusters job to lower those claims, and you must
know your rights and how to advocate for yourself.
