I just got a recorded call telling me that there is no Democratic primary in Michigan tomorrow
Edited on Mon Jan-14-08 07:23 PM by gollygee
and that EVERYONE is voting in the Republican party, and then asking me to press one if I'm voting for Loser #1, press 2 if I'm voting for Loser #2, and press 3 if I'm voting for Loser #3, and press 4 if I'm undecided. No option 5.

It specifically said that there was no Democratic primary, and therefore all Republicans, Democrats, and Independents would be voting in the Republican primary. And it started out with something about how we're at war, Michigan is losing jobs hand over fist, and we're being attacked by radical Islam and can you believe it but some people aren't bothering to vote tomorrow.

I couldn't tell who specifically was behind the call.

On caller ID it came up as POLITICAL CALL 1-571-283-6430

Not sure who it was from either. I forgot to look at my caller ID. I didn't dial *69, and I didn't call my phone company to make a report either.

Who could it be?

16. Someone posted that they got a recorded message for John McCain on that line
Cordata

Yet another automated recording for that wanker mccain... Called the number back and all you get is a somewhat snide recording that says "this was a political call, thank you". Nice to know that people thumb their nose at the do not call list since political junk is exempt...

"I'm in suburban Chicago, the IL-06 district.
I'm at home today taking care of my son, and about 3 p.m. the phone rang. I didn't make it in time but checked the Caller ID log to see something listed as "Political Call." The number was 1-571-283-6430 (not a local area code: a quick Google search turns up Arlington, VA as the source), and I called it back twice. Both times I reached a recording (a woman's voice) stating "You were contacted for political reasons. Thank you and have a good day."

Therese Holliday - 5 Nov 2007
I was contact from the mentioned number with a recording from a student from Federal Way School District in Washington State. When I called back the response was automated and said I had been contacted for political reasons, with no identification of who they were. 411 stated it was a Virginia number but no name. The web site SimplyBetterSchools.org is registered to an individual in Vermont. Backers are all school districts. I want these bastards off my phone line.

Got an automated message stating that there was no 2008 Democratic Primary in Michigan, so everyone should vote in the Republican Primary, which is a complete and utter lie. They used what sounded like a Governor Granholm sound-alike. I'd kind of be curious who is funding this disinformation campaign...

I DO NOT WANT TO BE CALLED FOR POLITICAL REASONS - i want to be left alone.

this is wrong - we pay for our phones for our use - not some political machine that is not of our persuasion.

I'm in suburban Chicago, the IL-06 district.

Don't know who's calling me "for political reasons," but I've been reading about the nationwide RNCC robocall attack all day, and just thought I should add this brief experience to the public record somewhere.

14. Is the R primary open in Michigan?
Since the Democratic primary is moot, that means all the Dems could go vote for the most pathetic R candidate. The only problem would be figuring out who is the most pathetic!

30. there sort of isn't one
the michigan Dems decided to move up the primary date rather than participate in super tuesday. the DLC or DNC (which everone controls stuff like this) told them if they held the primary on 1/15 the delgates would not be recognized and told candidates to remove their names from the ballots. (same thing with Florida)

Obama and Edwards did so. Clinton hasn't, and I think Gravel is still on the ballot although he has withdrawn his candidacy.

Michigan Democrats hope primary serves as 'wake-up call'
10:23 PM CST on Monday, January 14, 2008
By GROMER JEFFERS JR. / The Dallas Morning News
gjeffers@dallasnews.com

--snip--
Democrats all over Michigan feel left out of today's primary, probably because they are.

The National Democratic Party has punished Michigan for moving its primary before Feb. 5.

That means none of its 156 delegates will be counted, at least not before some kind of deal is made at the national convention this summer in Denver.

Only four names are on Democratic ballots: Chris Dodd, Mike Gravel, Dennis Kucinich and Mrs. Clinton.

Only Mr. Kucinich is actively campaigning in Michigan.

"The issues in Michigan reflect the challenges and possibilities in America," he told about 50 people at a Detroit jazz bar Monday night.

Illinois Sen. Barack Obama and former North Carolina Sen. John Edwards took their names off the ballot.

Michigan party leaders have called the entire affair painful, but they insist they did the right thing in moving up the primary and taking the punishment.

--snip--

Democratic voters could play a role in the GOP primary.

Analysts expect some Democrats to cross over and vote for a moderate Republican like John McCain.

.........you probably got the phone call to discourage you from "crossing over" and voting for a 2nd tiered republic and therefore prevent the front runners from aquiring delegates.

Edited on Tue Jan-15-08 06:04 AM by wlucinda
http://www.whocalled.us/lookup/5712836430

"16 calls reported from this number.According to 1 reports the identity of this caller is Melissa Bean"

I did a search for Melissa Bean and found http://www.melissabean.com/
She is Democratic congresswoman from the 8th Congressional District of Illinois
http://www.house.gov/bean/

I am implying nothing. Just posted what I'm finding.

It shows it with a date of 2006-11-03 and has unidentified listing below that. It also lists a Drayton Nabers on an adjacent date, and the comment says it was calling him about a state Supreme Court (Presumably Alabama).. There are also blank identifiers with a 1.15.2008 date. It only attaches Bean to the number, in the page quote above. One of the comments in the link says her campaign was calling them several times a day in 06.

Someone posted on 1/13 that they received robocalls from McCain via the number as well.
