Speaking of MLK (non-2008 election thread here)...
Last night, at the Kennedy Center in Washington, the Choral Arts Society of Washington held its http://www.choralarts.org/concert_mlk.html">annual choral tribute to Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

In addition to a great show, with standout performances from the Martin Luther King Tribute Choir -- a choir cobbled together from DC-area church choirs, and the Maryland State Boychoir (a little blind kid brought down the house, btw), the Society presented a Humanitarian Award to Julian Bond for all of his work in the field of civil rights throughout his life.

We can intone the name of great civil rights leaders all we want in the current ratrace for the presidency, but there are still those among us who were on the front lines of the struggle nearly 50 years ago, and who still deserve to be recoginzed for their contributions.

Bond is one of these people. Read a little more about him on wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Julian_Bond
