Our nominee, whoever it turns out to be, shouldn't start the final run ...
licking his/her bloody wounds, surrounded by other battered and wounded Dems who can't face our real enemy until they recover from injuries inflicted during the primary season

We need a primary season that ultimately prepares us to fight together effectively towards November, not a primary season that leaves us gasping in amazement and fuming with rage about the back-stabbing SOBs amongst us

1. The two front runners are setting the tone.
I've never seen anything so ugly.

And if all the people on this board that are posting these threads from hell would put a tenth of the time into election protection, we might seat our winner.

6. what have Obama done lately that inflicts 'wounds'?
He seems to have stayed above it mainly, some of his supporters and even people who are not supporting him have reacted tho(Jesse Jackson Jr. excluded as his words was downright foolish and bad)

8. speaking of election protection
wtf about nevada. And putting that side for this thread...

How about one thing this year, just one. Hand audits in every state. Oregon has the law. Holt's bill will pay for it. Can we get all the election groups together to organize and focus on just that one thing in every state?

10. I don't know. Most of those groups are struggling for resources
while the big campaigns spend brazilions of dollars on ad buys.

12. I honestly don't think it's been that bad at all
Seriously. The so-called attacks are overblown tremendously here and in the blogosphere, but in point of fact, it hasn't been an ugly contest by any measure.

13. An AP reporter is on Washington Journal right now
and between them, they're milking this story for all it's worth.

This is beginning to remind me of the way the press attacked Bill Clinton for eight straight years.

14. They're milking it
because they have to talk about SOMETHING.

But seriously, if you ignore the talking heads and examine who's actually saying what in the campaigns, it's nothing major. Yes, reporters are influenced by what they read on all the blogs, too. But in the end, I don't think these things will be anywhere near as important as people play them up to be here.

Every day, we get countless breathless posts about Candidate X is DEAD! Candidate Y just blew every shot he had! Candidate Z has alienated EVERYBODY!

It's nonsense.

15. I can't listen to the Noise machine or go to GD-P. I wish all those
posts would be moved there.

WJ is a quick way to get the headlines for the day, even if the stories they read are often blatant spin.

This AP reporter is a piece of work. She's why I don't take papers any more.

16. yeah
I haven't gotten a paper in years.

But I just think the outrage-of-the-day is rarely very important, or has any lasting impact.

2. The people with the "bloody wounds" are in Iraq!
The people "surrounded by other battered and wounded" are in Iraq, the Veterans' Hospitals, and in Afgahnistan.

The millionaires running for office are merely "suffering" the indignities of words. It's called Free Speech ... and politics!

Sheesh! :eyes:

4. Of course, you are absolutely right. But political history suggests
candidates and their supporters may have long and unforgiving memories of the indignities of the primary season, and we'll really suffer if we end the season with widespread resentments

11. OK, TN, you're probably thinking
I'm stalking you at this point making like some sort of cheerleader as we often end up in the same threads, but so often you say, quite succinctly, exactly what I was thinking. So, once again, thank you for putting things in perspective.

5. Good luck with that ... given what's gone on so far -
unlikely, anyone will come out of this energized about donating to/working for/voting for for the nominee.

Don't shoot the messenger, I just call 'em like I see 'em.

9. And they shouldn't be out of money in August
because they had to spend it in a long primary fight against someone who wanted to stay in until the convention. It hurts the party.
