He gets a serious question and he just sits there and laughs and giggles like my daughters used to do when they were little. No answer. Just the giggles? What is up with that anyway? Did he do this in NY too? Or is this a recent addition to his repertoire?

His eyes roll all around in his head when he is laughing too. Its weird.

Supporters gave Rudy Giuliani a rock-star reception when he made a campaign stop in Manatee County on Saturday in a state crucial to his bid for the Republican nomination for president.

Local Republican Party supporters got the crowd chanting Giuliani's distinctive first name over and over until he arrived.

As the former mayor of New York stepped onto the stage in the ballroom of the Senior Enrichment Center, the standing-room-only crowd of about 800 cheered after waiting for more than a hour for him to arrive.

Joyce and John Tevald didn't mind the wait to hear from their choice for the Jan. 29 primary.

"We're familiar with what he's done for New York City," said Joyce Tevald, who moved to Manatee County with her husband from New Jersey about a year ago. "He did a fantastic job cleaning it up."

She said she used to work in Manhattan and was afraid to walk in Times Square.

"After he cleaned it up, I now take my granddaughter there," Joyce Tevald said.

Giuliani was campaigning on his accomplishments as mayor of the nation's largest city, especially his experiences during the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center.

When a young boy in the audience asked him if he was scared during the Sept. 11 attacks, Giuliani said he did not have time to think about being scared.

Because the bridge and tunnel crowd swarm in and make it impossible to walk two steps in any direction. These days, I have to use 43rd or 41st if I want to make any headway across town. When Times Sq was still sleazy, at least you could walk; there were no crowds. Now it's wall-to-wall fast food chains, pop theaters and gawking tourists. Rudy put a strip of plastic across Time Sq labeled, "Life, sanitized for your protection".
