I keep reading about "DU Exceptionalism" - but it's NOT just DU ...
Gone From the Granite State, But Tactics Not Forgotten

By Alec MacGillis

The presidential campaign has moved on from New Hampshire, but it has left behind it deep fissures and feelings of resentment among local Democrats that some fear may linger all the way until November.

Some supporters of Barack Obama, stung by his narrow loss to Hillary Clinton, are lashing out at a large group of Democratic women leaders in the state who signed a letter criticizing Obama's commitment to abortion rights, a letter that went out by e-mail to many New Hampshire voters two days before the primary.

Other Obama backers are upset about efforts by top Clinton supporters to remove poll observers that the Obama campaign had stationed around the state on primary day, an intervention that the Obama supporters say hindered their get out the vote efforts.

Obama supporter Bill Siroty, a former Democratic chair for the town of Amherst, said the ill will is running so high that it could keep Democrats in the state who supported Obama from rallying behind Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton, should she win the nomination. In 2000, bad feelings that lingered among some Bill Bradley supporters about tactics used by Al Gore in the primary - including misleading charges about Bradley's health care plan - were seen as one reason why Gore lost the state to George W. Bush in November, thereby giving Bush just enough Electoral College votes to take the presidency.

"People are very upset about it," said Siroty. "I've heard one or two threaten they're not going to vote for Clinton at all. Tensions are very high, and it could cause a rift."

Bette Lasky, the assistant House majority leader and a top Clinton supporter who was involved in both the e-mail and poll interventions, said she was sorry to hear about the bad feelings but hoped Obama supporters would get over it. "It's politics, and it happens," she said

1. This is exactly one of the reasons why I will not be voting for Hillary if she is the nominee,
Edited on Sat Jan-12-08 06:32 PM by Big Blue Marble
The other is her Iraq war vote. The Clintons lie about their opponents. Then say let bygones be bygones. They think we will come
back, because where else will we go. Well I played that game with them twice. I am not going to fall for it this time. If Hillary
has to resort to these lies to win, how do you Hillary supporters think she will govern? By telling you the truth, I doubt it.

18. Sure, not vote for the nominee
and help Bush with his legacy of a supreme court full of Thomases and Scalias.

But who care? You will sleep well, maybe. Not only will such a supreme court kill Roe v. Wade - that's OK, Obama wants women to have an abortion "prayerly" - but it will continue to support the erosion of civil rights.

So bye bye DU, bye bye Olbermann, Stewart and Colbert, and the Daily Kos. But, hey, you will sleep well, maybe.

23. Cross Posted from other thread - The Hypocracy of the ObamaNation comes back to bite it in the ASS
For the record, Democrats (Obama supporters) have been telling other Democrats (those of us that beleive in equal and civil rights for ALL AMERICANS to get over it for months.

Yup, for months, Obamabots have been telling the GLBT community on DU to "Get Over" Donnie McClurkin, and Obama embrase of Homophobia.

Now that others are playing the same DIRTY, CRASS politics that Obama played, Obamabots are suddenly shocked and upset that anyone would play the same dirty political games that Obama himself has been playing during the campaign.

Well, Obama Nation - GET OVER IT. You threw American Citizens and loyal Democrats under the bus, and told us to get the fuck over it.
Karma's a bitch.

Remember - your candidate started playing dirty first. Don't act offended. Deal with it.

Your faux outrage is laughable.

He's obviously biased towards Obama.

as to the first two items--I'm a Jewish transexual --so no --that wouldn't effect my take on him at all.

12. So you've been on DU how long?
and you don't see the deep fissures which may keep Obama supporters (and possibly others) from voting for Clinton?

You don't think that an Obama supporter is a good source for information about the feelings of Obama supporters?

So much so that I am implementing a new personal policy of usage.

Tahiti, very impressed with your recent "surge" of topics lately. Don't always agree with many of your responses, but you've been right on target with the discussions you've started this week.

I think "reality" will be biting lots of folk viciously in the butt, come about mid 2009-2010, and then principles might actually become the talk of elections, for a change.

24. Please continue to argue about if HC wins you won't voter for her
or if Obama wins you won't vote for him....

If another Rethuglican like Huckabee, McCain or Romney gets elected to office because we didn't vote for our candidate, the Democratic party members will deserve what's coming to us...and that is

1. You can forget about Equal rights for anyone in this country
2. You can count on endless wars which will eventually come to our shores.
3 You will ensure that the classicism in this country gets worse...there will be no middle class.
4. None of the Criminals currently in the * administration will be held accountable for the crimes they have committed..
5. Health Insurance, Jobs, Housing all of those things that we think every American should have a shot at ....well forget those.
6. Blackwater and other companies like them will become part of the government more than they are...
7. Our Infrastructure Highways, bridges, rail, air etc will continue to desintigrate..
7..Add whatever else we think is wrong on this list.

I am not happy with any of the Candidates but I will not deny my vote because of who our candidate is...for every Democratic voter that does not vote ....is a vote for the Rethuglicans....

Good Luck with that.

31. The More the Mainstream Media Trashes Hillary, More I Sympathize With Her Campaign
Edited on Sun Jan-13-08 05:15 PM by Crisco
First off, regarding the Planned Parenthood situation. I know he had them sign off on his "present" votes, but his strategy was indeed to duck the issue. If I were running as someone who stood up and risked taking a hit by voting against making abortion illegal, as opposed to not voting for making it illegal, I'd question my opponent's backbone, too.

Regarding the poll observers, those people were there to check off voters against their GOTV records. I see that as an "all's fair" tactic.

A week ago, certain DUers were saying Hillary lost her control at the debate, she blew her top, she was shrieking, etc., etc. The next day ohmygodshewascrying! Or shewasn'tcryingatallthatwasallaputon!

What's good for the goose ...
