The Fight of the Century.
"And, in this corner, in the tan pantsuit, weighing in at maybe a hundred and a quarter, is the current favorite, Senator Hillary "Former First Lady" Clinton."

"In the opposite corner, in the dapper black suit, weighing it at roughly a hundred and sixty-five pounds, stands the challenger, Senator Barack "New Hope" Obama."

"So, Fred, how do you think this fight will play out?"

"Well, Tom, I think Obama needs to avoid getting in too close. He's a boxer, light on his feet, and he definitely has the reach on Senator Clinton. As long as he remains light and airy and doesn't get pulled into a clinch, he should be able to dodge any solid blows.

"Clinton's a born scrapper, though, and she has had her eyes on the prize for a LONG time. If she can entice Obama into going toe-to-toe with her, he's going to get some bruises. I don't know if he has the stamina for a long, drawn-out bout. All that dodging and weaving takes a lot out of a person."

"So, Fred, are you saying you think Clinton's probably going to win?"

"I didn't say that. Obama's quick. If he keeps her away with his sexist jabs, she'll have a hard time landing any of the powerful body blows she's known for. But those racist roundhouses she picked up from some of her trainers can come out of nowhere and if one of those connects--we could be looking at a K.O."

"How about Clinton's stamina? You think she has it in her?"

"Oh, absolutely. This is a woman who's taken a pounding from so many people she could double as a body bag. Yet no matter what, she tucks her chin down and keeps on going. I doubt I've ever seen a fighter more resolved than she is once she sets her eyes on the prize."

"So you don't think Obama has it in him to deliver a knockout punch?"

"Maybe, but I doubt it. He's got a lot of flash and foot speed. If he wins this one, it's going to be on points. He's going to land a lot of punches, but they're not going to have the impact of the blows Clinton can deliver."

"Well, I guess that covers that. So what's next on the agenda after this fight?"

"Depends on who wins, and how. The best thing for either fighter is a win on points. If Clinton knocks Obama out, it's going to open up the floor for a challenge from Johnny "Kid Haircut" Edwards and Clinton would be in trouble if she decided to go toe-to-toe with him. He's one of the most vicious fighters I've ever seen, reminiscent of Marvelous Marvin Hagler in his prime. He doesn't rely on sexist jabs or racist roundhouses. He throws a nasty left hook and follows it up with a populist uppercut that can bounce a fighter's head off the ceiling.

"My advice to Clinton is to try to avoid knocking Obama out. She needs to win this on points so she doesn't give Edwards an opening to issue a challenge. Both of these fighters need to stay in the running to avoid either one of them having to deal with Kid Haircut."

"Thanks for the on-spot analysis, Fred. The fight's about to start. Let's see how it shakes out."

Disclaimer: This is just a light hearted metaphor for what's been coming out of the two camps over the past few days. It was never intended to offend anyone and I certainly hope it doesn't.

Now...may the best candidate win.

1. Today
is Smokin' Joe Frazier's birthday. ESPN-Classic had 5 hours of film of his career. Watching it, I thought of a thread from a couple days ago that compared Clinton vs Obama to Frazier vs Ali. I think that all things political and cultural are best reflected by the sport of boxing.
