because power is changing hands this year? When power changes hands there's usually some chaos and instability during the change period. Power struggles are never quiet and polite.

11. I was absolutely sure, too. I think that we all were.
And so was pretty much everybody I know. I just couldn't imagine anybody wanting four more years of the mess that Bush* created... Shows what I know...

26. But how could we help but be confident?
I'm pretty cynical, but I am still shocked that anybody still supported Bush* in 2004... I am amazed that he has 29%... It has to be those who just awoke from long comas or aliens who just landed here...x(

27. even if they hadn't cheated in Ohio
I was doubtful of change

I really thought that Kerry would have kept Bush policies on Iraq with only minor modifications

and with a Repug congress, his programs would have all been DOA

8. It's always this way during the primaries.
It was at least this bad the last time around, people getting worked up over their favorite candidates, but settled down after we had a nominee. :-) But then it's always something, or we might just get boring... ;)

9. People think they can stop a candidate by posting on a board
Like if they say "Obama has poopy pants" the nation is listening, and their revered candidate will suddenly, magically be annointed instead.

I have news, not only are the voters of the nation not listening to the idiotic things posted here... there seems to be an inverse relationship between popularity of a candidate on boards like this and what voters in the real world do.

12. Is the real world the MSM world or the evangelical world?
Near as I can tell, the world exists here too, albeit somewhat skewed and certainly pompous way.

15. I think that the main difference between us and the country-at-large is that
we're a whole lot better informed. Does that sound pompous? :D

24. Well, that's certainly true, here, just like anywhere else.
But I have always been impressed by the depth of knowledge and intelligent discourse here on DU. I manage to learn something new everyday. Don't let a few disgruntled posts or trolls skew your view of things here. This board is heavily freeped. But we're a pretty informed bunch, which continues to impress me, even after five years... ;) Yikes! Has it been that long?! :o

14. Might be.
It is weird because over the past month the prevailing voice has changed. Before many held to the ideal of a candidate that would be against the Iraq war, one that would talk about the illegal surveillance of citizens, the Patriot act and habeas corpus. The media has selected three candidates for us that, for the most part, do not speak to these issues. Many people with true value for those issues have gone silent here. The 'tubes' are filled with folks that don't seem to understand that by excluding Kucinich from the conversation we all lost a huge part of the election process. I hate to say it but the squabbling here is mostly from empty heads that don't have the ability to grasp the gravity of the situation. There really isn't much difference between the three candidates. I think the media fuels the fire for gender and racial tensions that seem to fester here. Peace, Kim

21. I share your frustration with the MSM and with the exclusion of Kucinich.
IMO, he has done brilliantly in the previous debates, but then I have to listen to the pundits squabbling over whether the "win" went to Clinton or Obama. *sigh* I am also sorry that both Biden and Dodd dropped out, since all these are intelligent and experienced voices that we need to hear... While the RW looneys are all hanging in there. :-(

16. the real reason there's so much contention, discord and confusion around here...
Is because it's the primaries. Last time I checked, it was called democracy.

Thank goodness we don't march in lock step like the freepers; discord among friends defines DU. :hi:
