Please DU, no more "celebrities gone wild" threads.
I don't peruse this site to read the latest on Britney or Anna Nicole. There are plenty of sites out there dedicated todisinfotainment. I come here to read about politics with a liberal and human perspective. Filling up my brain with information is productive, while reading every Tom, Dick and Sheri's opinion regarding "Is Britney on drugs/", "Was Anna Nicole murdered" is crap and doesn't deserve a moments attention by the caliber of most of the people on DU. End of Rant.

1. Then don't read those threads. It's that simple. There are plenty of
others you can read to educate yourself.

2. It IS "General Discussion"
Unless the admins clamp down on what can or cannot be posted here, I don't know how this can be accomplished.

5. I'd say "it is Lounge-worthy".
There is a difference between GD and Lounge, and for this board the stupid celebrity crisis threads are in my opinion lounge material, not GD.

6. no one's forcing you to read the posts
there are plenty of threads on DU that I have no interest in reading, and what do I do? skip them. ignore them. or otherwise pay them no mind. it works.

8. Exactly. It's like people who object to posts about '08
if they don't like the topic--don't open it.

9. Some might say someone dying at 39 is "human perspective", not "infotainment"
Chew on that.

10. If that's not why you come to DU, they should be relatively easy to avoid
I've sometimes clicked on such threads against my better judgment, but nobody is forced to read such a thread against their will. So don't click on them, or hide the thread, and the problem goes away :)

12. To each his (or her) own on DU...
It has taken me a while here to learn this - but one person's ridiculous thread is another person's important thread. As example, I thought the threads dissing Anna Nicole the day she died were in very poor taste and downright mean - particularly thinking of her daughter who sadly lost her brother and mother within a matter of weeks. Yet, I also thought the John Edwards house threads were valid and raised an important issue around walking one's talk (yet others here thought those threads were crazy). So it's a matter of personal taste.

Ultimately, as long as we respect the rules of the forum in general, I don't think members should decide which threads are "worthy." That smacks of censorship. As others have said here, if you don't like it - just ignore it or hide the thread.
