National Security Council spokesman Gordon Johndroe said Blair briefed President Bush about the plan during one of their "routine" calls Tuesday morning.
"The president views this as a success," Johndroe said. "The president wants to do the same thing, to bring our troops home as soon as possible.
"The president is grateful for the support of the British forces in the past and into the future. While the United Kingdom is maintaining a robust force in southern Iraq, we're pleased that conditions in Basra have improved sufficiently that they are able to transition more control to the Iraqis."

I know the British troops are stationed in Basra & not Baghdad. But if we are seeing success in Iraq then why are we sending more troops over there? Maybe we should get Tony Blair to re-deploy those troops to Baghdad instead. It will just be a short drive over there rather than us sending more troops half way around the world. Why did Bush not ask Tony Blair to do that?Denmark is planning to withdraw all it's troops. There are also plans for Lithuania to follow suit. Why not re-deploy those troops? After all these leaders were once Bush's best friends. Is Bush & his rubber stamp buddies the only people left in the US who believe this war should go on.
