DUers have always advised to choose in the primary...
if you want change. When others have criticised some Democrats for being "Republican-lite", many DUers suggested party unity until the next primary. Does that advice still hold true? Does it apply to candidates for the Presidency as well as the Congress and Senate? Just a reminder of some past positions and the need for consistency.

1. I would say so
I think everybody voting in the primary should vote for who they think will best represent the party. If you think that person is Dennis Kucinich; vote for him. If you think that person is Hillary Clinton; vote for her.

Party unity isn't as much of an issue during the primary season, I would think.

I suppose there is the danger of bloodying a candidate so much that he or she is unelectable. Or falling in love with a candidate so much that you aren't willing to vote for someone who isn't your candidate. But i'm not sure those are serious problems.

Party Unity is more an issue 4 months from now.

2. Yup. After the primary it is, "You had your chance and you blew it."
Before the primary it is, "My candidate is The Chosen One, even though my candidate votes with the Republicans more often than not. But vote for him/her, or you are a traitor to your country, a divider of party unity and hater of cute puppies."

With some people, you just can't win.
