Why do the Republicans bother having a nominee anyway?
As far as I'm concerned, their governing priviledges have been revoked

3. Thank You
A Party that hates the government, governs poorly, they suck at it.
They had their chance, they have not lead, we will.

they can win any election.

7. Because it's impossible to steal an election if you don't have a candidate.
Jeez! There some things even computers can't do.

8. For Our Amusment And Horror
The Repugnican silly season has been a gift that keeps giving. Besides the comedic value of the candidates and their debates, they've managed to gut their own party in a mad dash to the extreme right.

Who would think in 2008 we'd have to even consider a candidate who believes the earth was created in 7 days or another who turns the family values meme on its head or a third who is a sleezy salesman selling whatever snake oil he can get away with. Anyone with a modicum of common sense who watches these morons can't help but shutter in the hypocrisy, sleeze and outright ignorance. The ammo they've created for any Democratic candidate is deep...far deeper than the flaw on our side.

While one may be pissed at Hillary about Iraq or Obama on Health Care or Edwards on being "Shrill"...the Repugnican rifts are far and wide. I can't see the fundies getting on the busses if anyone but the Huckster's the nominee (not VP...top of the ticket), and that would drive the "fiscal conservatives" into hibernation. Plus there are the Paulbots who will go third party and take whatever remaining Independents on that side with them.

Give it time...the blank check was cancelled with the '06 election (despite the bank not bouncing the checks)...the next step is to get control of the Executive and start to steer this country back on a sane path. It's gonna take years to clean up the booooosh messes...change won't come overnight, but at least it appears this country is moving in the right direction. Patience and hard work will make it happen.

9. Because this is how our system works
Repugs have just as much right to have their opinion heard as we do. Their votes are just as valuable. We may disagree, but I would fight to the death for their right to be COMPLETELY wrong.

10. They must continue to prove
to their base that government does not work and the only way they can do that is by being in charge.

11. It's how they raise money
They may be the world's worst at knowing how to govern, but man, they know how to raise money from their haves, have mores, and the idiots who want mores. Without going through the motions their base might actually think for themselves and then where would they be? Republicans are in campaign mode 100% of the time. Look at Bush. He even ventures out of Crawford during his vacations to go raise funds. That and pass legislation to keep Schiavo plugged into life-support.
