when he got into the race and the first thing he did was to skip a debate and go on late-night tv talk instead, there was an article that came out (maybe NYT) in which he expressed the belief that even though he was getting into the race late, that there were a lot of Law and Order fans, and his name recognition would essentially catapult him to the White House. So dude was talked into running (he *had* to have been talked into it, as he sure hasn't seemed like he wanted to do it) based on his perceived gravitas ala his role on Law and Order.

And the end result is he makes a laughing stock of himself and his campaign, which very well may undermind his credibility in the role on the tv show that he presumed would take him to the WH.
