'A thick skin'
It's often suggested, that to post here, one should have 'a thick skin'.

It's even mentioned in the rules.

Sometimes I feel like a titanium skin is needed to post here.

I don't have that.

The skin on my hands has been thick... calloused, as a matter of fact... from work that I've done throughout my life.

The skin on my feet has also been calloused.

The skin over my heart, however, remains thin... very thin. It allows for much love to flow in and out. I wouldn't want it to be calloused... even though, at times, it allows hurt to enter also.

:bounce: :bounce: :bounce:

Ignore the rude posters who rarely have anything constructive to offer but just jump in to flame people. You have important work to do :toast:!

3. politics is frustrating
It's just not reasonable to expect that those passions won't infect our advocacy. These issues cover everything from convenience to life and death. If you want to debate these anywhere you need a "thick skin." Advocacy is more than just a nice conversation.

10. I'm reminded of the differences between the distinguished President Carter & the bush/rove team.
I suppose it depends whom one wants to emulate.

13. I never thought of it like that....Carter; the soft spoken, gentle man/
the others; hatefilled, unfeeling, self-serving a**holes.

You're right, of course.

A tender heart feels everything; a hard heart feels nothing.

Guard it with care. Shelter it when it's bombarded with hatred.
Keep it open for all the love and caring that shines through.

I live, work, and interact with them everyday. I don't think one's either Carter, or else they're Rove. Silly.

4. Hey if you didn't have something worthwhile to say
you'd be posting at FR. The fact that you are here gives you credibility with me. Don't mean I agree with every post you make, but I will take them seriously (unless you intend otherwise).

5. Blue's posts are some of the best on DU
No one focuses on poverty/homelessness as s/he does in GD. There is so little to even "disagree" with in Blue's posts since at least 90% of them are not opinion/flame-bait etc. but merely drawing attention to important issues.

Blue rocks! :yourock: :yourock:

9. You are loved, Sapphire Blue, for all you do, especially by me!
Differences of opinions don't equate to lack of love flowing. And FWIW, I've been flamed and knocked, but it's DU, and I might/could have deserved it You are a big part of DU!

14. My dear SB
From a fellow thinney I tell you I appreciate your presence here.

Seeing the treatment some of our posters are subjected to does hurt. The nastiness just isn't necessary for debate and serves no purpose.

I long for Valentines Day again. DU was exceedingly loving during the fundraiser.

19. Everyone has a thin skin
I never intend to offend, but sometimes do, and that's how most of us are, at least at DU (Freeperland is another story).

The problem here is, do you ever offend without intending to? What does it feel like when someone attacks you for offending them when you had no such intent? Are you sure you never offend.

We all need to be civil, but face it, some people are going to take what you say the wrong way and be unreasonable about it. It goes both ways.

20. Those are good points.
And when one offends, a few simple words can help heal the hurt... "I'm sorry that I offended you." It seems to be a difficult thing to do, though.

21. I'm with you--I refuse to distort myself to fit in with a sick culture.
Remember many years ago when the saying, "No pain, no gain" was popular?

Well, I was out of step with that too, and caught much grief for it. But, I refused to hurt my body just because it was a fad to do so.

THEN...it was proved harmful.

:P

Same with this "being tough" crap, and having a "thick skin". It's damaging to our humanity, and it shows in the kind of callous society we have.

Besides, I rather like your "thin skin". :) :) :)

It's hard living on the outside of crappy expectations, and the isolation that entails, but.... there it is.

It's not worth giving up our sanity for a fad.

 :loveya:

ps... I wonder who's going to be there to put back together all those "thick-skinned" people who inevitably fall apart???
