As for what they find funny, you're right. It's the humor of those in power picking on those with less power, which is never funny. Funny only happens when those with less power get their digs in against those who are powerful.

The Republicans are the rich and powerful. They tend to lack introspection and are unable to criticize each other, as that is considered heresy. So, the only people they have to poke fun at are the poor and powerless, and that's not funny, it's just cruel.

A second factor is the near total lack of imagination, a key component of wit and humor, among our friends on the Right. Artists and others with imagination literally frighten these people, who are slaves to the conventional.

Finally, you have to be smart to be funny. Do Republicans seem smart to you?

Their "funny" e-mails they send by the thousands, their talk show hosts, even their "comedians" usually use the "humor" of making fun of others.Making up "funny little names for people like "femi-Nazi" or "environmental whacko" or as Bush 41 called Gore "Ozone man". They find their "humor" in belittling others. I guess it keeps them feeling Superior about themselves...
