I wouldn't blame the drunk driver, I'd blame myself for putting myself in a position to be hit by one when I know they are out.

So hope you don't have to go out and if you do hope everyone is very careful.

1. I would blame the drunk driver because that's who is at fault.
But I'm staying in tonight too.

2. that is like not blaming gay bashers
if I get bashed returning from a gay club. Or not blaming car jackers since I was driving a car.

4. My thoughts are with those who have no choice but to drive
Many folks have jobs that don't give them the luxury of staying home. Keep those folks in your prayers.
Myself? After driving cross-country in the last week...my ass is firmly planted on the couch tonight.

A brandy might make you feel better (if you aren't taking medication that contraindicates alcohol).

Head-on collision in Toledo kills 5, including 2 from Mich.
December 31, 2007

FREE PRESS STAFF WRITER

Five people, including two Redford sisters, died in a crash late Sunday night when an Adrian man drove his pickup the wrong way on I-280 near Toledo.

The dead girls were identified by police as 10-year-old Haley Burkman and 7-year-old Lacie Burkman. Their brother, Beu Burkman, 8, was in stable condition at Toledo’s St. Vincent Hospital, police said.

Also killed in the accident were a mother and two children from Maryland who may have been relatives of the Burkmans.

The Adrian man, Michael Gagnon, 24, had been drinking in a bar in Oregon, Ohio, before the accident, police said. Then he stopped at a Taco Bell for some food.

15. That's up to you, I would chose to blame myself if I went out tonight knowing there are more drunks
on the road, my decision, my responsibility.

29. And here I thought martyrdom was just a myth...
You blame yourself for the actions of others? And here I thought martyrdom was just a myth...

What's the precise number of drunks on the road that compels you to stay in? What's that number based on? How are you aware of the number of drunk drivers at any given time? Do you avoid areas with higher than average numbers for drunken driving?

11. There are many more drunks on the roads tonight, you do know that, right?
Choosing to go on the roads tonight or not is my decision, and if I chose to go on them I am responsible for that decision.

14. Yeah, don't you get it? All the drunk partiers are really
al queda and terrists.....fear...fear....fear....

We usually host a house party and anyone who is under the influence, we take keys and either call them a cab or just give 'em a pillow and a blankee....

When my son and his friends had house parties, as the kids came in, the car keys went in a basket and before they could leave, we made the decision if they were impaired or not. Most chose to stay.

Hell, one year we had a huge snowstorm and at 3 in the morning we were all out in the street making snow angels and tossing snowballs...then one of the neighbors called the cops.....party poopers.

12. Pickup driver jailed in wrong-way crash that killed 5 family members
An Adrian man was booked late Monday in the Lucas County jail on five counts of aggravated vehicular homicide after he was involved in an I-280 crash that killed five members of a Maryland family — including an 8-week-old girl.

Police said Michael Gagnon, 24, drove I-280 in the wrong direction for nearly four miles before his pickup truck collided Sunday night with a minivan carrying a family home after a holiday trip.

A mother and her four children were killed in the crash about 10:55 p.m. on Sunday near the Manhattan Boulevard overpass of I-280. Mr. Gagnon's pickup was traveling north in the southbound lanes of I-280 just south of I-75, police said.

Police identified the dead as Bethany Griffin, 36, Jordan Griffin, 10, Vadi Griffin, 8 weeks, all of Parkville, Md., near Balitmore; Lacie Burkman, 7, and Haley Burkman, 10, both of Redford Township, Mich., near Detroit.

Danny Griffin, Jr., 36, of Parkville, Md., the driver of the van, was in serious condition on Monday at St. Vincent, where his passengers, Sidney Griffin, 8, also of Parkville, was listed in critical condition, and Beu Burkman, 8, whose address was not available, was listed in serious condition, a hospital spokesman said.

Both drivers tried to avoid each other, but the crash ripped a side door off the minivan, throwing out some of the victims.

An infant seat wrapped with pink baby blankets landed in the roadway.

Won't be different, we stay home most of the time anyhow. But a little before midnight, we'll walk the dog out on a little pathway nearby. Then we stare up the stars, to celebrate just being alive.
