23. Well, that's odd.
It's running from 7 to 9 on A&E here. The First 48 is on at 10. Ooh, I just made my husband check--they'll be showing Jesus Camp again at 11.

I wish I'd known it was on to begin with--I didn't see that it was on until 8:30, and the 11 o'clock show is too late for me.

4. These people remake god in their own image
No wonder he's so ugly, such a twisted dwarf of a god, so hateful and loveless. They can't imagine a god any better than they are, and they are wretched indeed. Sorry, I seem to be on a soapbox. I have fundies in my family, people who were raised better, and it's a touchy subject for me.

I don't believe I have the truth any more than they do, but I don't shove my truth down the throats of everyone around me. I despise fundies, of all religions.

Who does she have in mind: Dick Cheyney? Karl Rove? There was a time when Bush was spirit filled. Spirits from a bottle that is.

88. Let's all wave and say hi!!
"UPDATE 2, 12/30/07: For all of you dumbasses coming from this forum at the DemocraticUnderground, I am not "one of blogs." I am an independent blogger who did not attend Jesus Camp but did attend Lakewood Park Bible Camp. Your personal experiences seem to be enough to negate all that Jesus Camp stands for, so my personal experiences should be the foil to that. If you bothered to read all of the provided links and information here, instead of relate stories of bad religious experiences and Ted Haggard revelations, all cloaked in bad spelling and punctuation, you'd be able to see that for yourself. But thanks for the hits. No, you cannot leave a comment. They've been closed."

Gee how very Christian of you to use such language.

You and your kind are FREAKS! You are free to practice any religion you want, but abusing kids is a CRIME. If you really live so close to this "camp" then why weren't you complaining to the authorities that kids were being abused there? Jesus knows what you did and you will all pay one day.

Here's a picture for you:

12. These adults are manipulating children--!! THIS is why . . .
Edited on Sun Dec-30-07 11:32 PM by defendandprotect
we should protect children from any such intrusions on their consciences --- !!!

Boy, Hitler and the Vatican know what they're talking about when they say "get 'em young!" ---

It's really sad ---
obviously, children want to be good --
want to do the right thing ---
and they're dependent upon adults for information ---
and this is what they get !!!

33. I was brought up this way
and it wasn't easy but I have to tell you...my one friend that was sexually abused by her father and two more that had alcoholic fathers had it a lot worse. Every time I hear calls to "protect the children" it worries me. Attempts to regulating what people believe and/or what they teach their children is likely to fail and to be frought with abuse. Who is going to be the arbiter of what beliefs are acceptable?

45. That said, I don't think it is bad to educate
young children about God, religion, or philosophy. Even Unitarians have Sunday Schools for young children.

I saw Jesus Camp and I think it is too manipulative and guilt-inducing. They are not realing teaching, but forcing them to believe these things.

67. and the hypocrisy involved
It's horrible to tell a creationist they are stupid for believing but it's okay to say it to those who believe in evolution.

But as Becky said, they've got 'truth' on their side.

Poor kids. It's not as vile as the many abuses a child can face, but it's sad none the less to see little kids get saddled with such guilt for simple pleasures like reading Harry Potter.

This power point presentation "Punishment For Sin is Death" dripping in blood is quite something....

80. How does bush-worship figure into this?
I haven't seen the movie, though I would like to. It's hard to tell from the comments here how they get from extreme Christianity to essentially worshipping a failed little nothing of a "man". Or are they just praying to the Sky God to give bush a brain before it's too late?

Sorry, folks. You cannot petition the lord with prayer!

Crazy ass people! The homeschooling mom was nuts. Then again, who knows what their local school is like.

73. Oh the hypocrisy
I'm watching this on A&E Hi-Def. A&E has made the technical decision to play all regular movies in stretch mode on Hi-Def, meaning that everybody looks fatter than they are already are.

About 5 minutes into the program they show a woman leading a children's group. At one point she starts shouting about "fat and lazy" Christians. Unfortunately, she has a bit of a weight problem and the stretch mode makes her look like a blimp.

77. The whole was very frightening...
I was in the evangelical church for a number of years. Wow, it was bang on. I used to teach children in Sunday school and was told that I had to teach 2 and 3 year olds how to pray to get the holy spirit, talking in tongues and other things. I had a great curriculum to work with, however I had kids that asked me questions that me wonder what in hell I was doing there. I soon realized that this wasn't what I wanted to teach.

These were people who advocated "spare the rod: spoil the child" mentality. The would make sure that Focus on the Family literature was everywhere. I didn't spank my children for misbehaving than I was spoiling them, never mind that I could have been charged with child abuse.

I wonder what these kids will be like when they grow up. I wouldn't want to be in the families shoes when they rebel and they will. I wonder if a followup movie will be done...hmm, Jesus Camp what went wrong?

79. I watched a little over an hour.
All that shaking and moaning in front of that Bush cardboard figure did it for me, I had to turn it off. If it's repeated sometime, maybe I'll catch the last half.

82. Horror movies like this give me nightmares... I don't think I can watch it...
curiously, I have no problem with "The Devil's Rejects" or "Saw'.. because I know they are works of fiction.

90. Future clinic bombers.
Ironically, I only caught parts of it here and there because I was flipping back and forth watching The History Channels "The Universe" series about the "Big Bang", and the following show about the creation and history of the earth.

I'm all for allowing parents the right to have control over their children, but that was some seriously messed up shit.

In another ironic twist... these are the mutants that abhor abortion, fuck and pro-create like lab animals for Jesus; thereby increasing their numbers and spread like a virus.

Think we're fucked now?

Give'em another generation or two and we'll be back in the Dark Ages burning heretics at the stake.
