Chelsea dissed 9 yr old Scholastic News "reporter"??
I hope there is another side to this story cuz it has her coming across as a brat who is along for the ride only to show up as a shallow background prop for her mother and nothing more. If this is how it all happened, I think to save her rep (not that she cares probably) a full sitdown interview with this 9 y/o Scholastic reporter needs to be announced ASAP.

http://apnews.myway.com/article/20071231/D8TS58V00.html

It's one thing for Hillary Rodham Clinton's campaign to turn down interview requests for the candidate's daughter, Chelsea. But can't a 9-year-old reporter catch a break?

Sydney Rieckhoff, a Cedar Rapids fourth grader and "kid reporter" for Scholastic News, has posed questions to seven Republican and Democratic presidential hopefuls as they've campaigned across Iowa this year. But when she approached the 27-year-old Chelsea after a campaign event Sunday, she got a different response.

"Do you think your dad would be a good 'first man' in the White House?" Sydney asked, but Chelsea brushed her question aside.

"I'm sorry, I don't talk to the press and that applies to you, unfortunately. Even though I think you're cute," Chelsea told the pint-sized journalist.

She didn't want to give any interviews at all, even the kid's.

Chelsea is well aware how easy it would be to say something innocuous and have it blown out of proportion. That this even became a news item is proof of it.

19. Who cares what Chelsea thinks anyway? It was a stupid question.
Why should Chelsea have to answer such an inane question? We'd all be better off if the candidates refused to answer more of the stupid inane questions that masquerade as journalism nowadays.

I'm not impressed by Scholastic or Weekly Reader or whoever it was sending out nine year old "reporters" and I'm not impressed with handwringing outrage when a relative of a candidate politely declines to respond.

67. The experience is a great one for the nine-year-old.
Had Chelsea talked to her, the child would have remembered Chelsea's kindness forever. As it is, the child will have Chelsea's unkindness to remember -- forever.

It's a matter of thinking of the child's joy and putting that joy before your own rigid ideas about what you are and are not supposed to be doing. If Chelsea did not want to talk to people, what was she doing there? Was she just there for a photo-op? Was she just hanging out for laughs? Why was she there?

If the child reporter is actually interested in being a journalist when she grows up, she'll have to get used to people responding with "no comment."

24. I am so sick of all the crap being posted about any thing Hillary
now they are starting on Chelsae. It is one thing to support a candidate but the vile hatefulness, lies and manufactured crap being circulated is horrendous...What kind of people do stuff like this...is rove still around and making up his dirty filthy stuff. Is this why he said he resigned so he could go into hiding and do all this. I am sickening and disappointed by the stuff the people find out there, and put on this board. This used to be a good place to come to but it is getting terrible.

Look at all the emails about her not supporting the 9/11 widows, a lie. Look at the emails about her great uncle who they said was hung for being a horse thief, a lie. What in the devil are they going to come up next.

BUT IT DOESN'T MAKE ANY DIFFERENCE. THE LIES, THE SWIFTBOATING AND HATE AND VILE HAVE BEEN AROUND SO LONG REAL AMERICANS ARE WISE TO TO IT NOW AND DON'T PAY ANY ATTENTION...

Chelsea Clinton speaks at a Kerry-Edwards rally as Caroline Kennedy, left, and Vanessa Kerry, right, look on in Tampa, Fla., on Saturday. Former first daughter Clinton, shielded from the public during her years in the White House, delivered her first political speeches on Saturday as she campaigned for Democratic presidential candidate John Kerry. — AP/PTI

i remember that at the time some were surprised she was out on the campaign trail with caroline and vanessa...

76. Chelsea has been in the public eye for 15 years and has never given an interview.

I think her privacy is really important to her, and she knows that once she gives one interview, the floodgates will open.

79. What I don't understand
is how she can willingly campaign for her mom and still claim immunity from any press questions. Either she wants to be in the public eye or she doesn't. Clearly her choice, but if she doesn't want to be in the public eye, she probably shouldn't stand on a stage next to a presidential candidate.

80. What part of "she doesn't give press interviews" don't you understand?
She talks to the public and campaigns for her mom. she has NEVER been available to the press. And sorry, those are not conflicting positions- much as you'd like to make them out to be.

81. That's what I'm asking about
if she puts herself out in the public and campaigns for someone, she should be willing to answer questions about her positions. She has every right to her privacy, but if she's going to stand up at a campaign event to which the press is invited and publicly join the campaign, then for that instant, she is choosing to be a public figure.

I would expect the same thing from Cate Edwards and any other ADULT child of a presidential candidate. Nobody else in the campaign has the ability to say that nobody can ask them questions. Why can she?

82. Why? Because you say so?
She does answer questions- from the public. She is not obligated to answer questions from the press because she's campaigning for her mother. And why the hell should she answer questions about her own positions on anything? She's not running for office.

As for Cate Edwards, she's hardly the focus of interest that Chelsea Clinton is, but should she choose not to answer questions from the press, that's her business

And it's dishonest to say that Chelsea Clinton doesn't answer questions: she does- she just restricts the question asking to the public at events in which she's campaigning for her mother.

83. No, not because I say so
but because that's typically how it works when someone chooses to put themselves in a public spotlight. I never said she HAD to, I'm just questioning why she doesn't take questions from the press. She's an adult. She has made the CHOICE to stand up with her mother at public events, at events to which the press was invited by her mother's campaign.

No, she is not running for office, but she has CHOSEN to be a representative of the Hillary campaign. I know of no other representative of any other campaign who refuses to answer press questions. That's all I'm saying.

Also, don't call me dishonest. I was clearly talking about press questions, not the general public.

84. Thats not all that bad.
It would been cute to sit down with a 9 year old reporter(I doubt he could ask tough questions, seeing that he probably doesn't know his multiplication tables), but she wasn't really rude about it.

No outrage here. Move along, nothing to see....

86. You are demanding a full sitdown interview with this 9 y/o Scholastic reporter?
Do me a favor and hold your breathe until it happens.

87. That's a "diss"?
That's a "diss"?

Which part was the 'diss'... telling a reporter that she doesn't do press interviews, or telling a nine-year old that he's cute?

Yeah... she's just ruined her 'cred'. Campaign's in flames! Flood! Fire! Famine! :eyes:

88. Not a diss if done nicely, though "I think your cute" stuff is patronizing.
