Chime in here if you're really sick of having a state sponsored christian holiday shoved in our face every year.

but I believe all these Republicans in the work place where it isn't proper saying "Merry Christmas" should be boiled in their own pudding with a stake of Holly through their hearts. The correct saluation in the workplace is "Happy Holidays"

One of my idiot co-workers told a Muslim woman who works with us, "Merry Christmas". This lady wears a veil so there is no question she isn't Christian. Now that shit goes a little too far. How embarassing (The Muslim lady handled it very gracefully, I must say).

10. So far so good. Slept in, it isn't "merry, merry" on Washington Journal,
and I have yet to see one film clip of soldiers in Iraq wearing Santa hats and wishing us all a Merry Christmas. But, I'm sure it will happen. And the "feel good" stories about people feeding the hungry and giving blankets to the homeless, then patting themselves on the back for giving up their cozy McMansion for a couple of hours. Jeez, I hate Christmas.

19. re: W.J. - they had Frank Luntz on for about an hr. I'd call him an actor

but don't want to give actors a bad name. so pretender will do. he pretends not to be a propagandist.

he didn't want any callers to say anything bad about anyone because its xmas.

many callers sounded tired of all the corruption crap by neo cons and disregarded Frank's plea.

he tried to take charge of the time he was on and the host kinda let him at first but pulled himself together and cooled down Frank a little.

Edited on Tue Dec-25-07 09:29 AM by rox63
Yeah, I'm cooking a special dinner for my family, and there are gifts and a decorated tree here. But I will be so glad to see all the commercial trappings of the holiday go away. Every time I go to the drugstore to pick up a prescription, every time I go to the supermarket to buy groceries, it is forcefully shoved in my face. My remaining relatives (Mom and brother) don't go to any sort of church. My bro is a pagan, and Mom's never been religious. Me, I'm a recovering ex-Catholic. We will have some of the holiday traditions today. But I'd be just as happy to send the money spent on gifts to a worthy cause to help less fortunate people.

15. I think that should be for ALL holdays...
Let's do away with all of them, July 4th, Veterans Day, Memorial Day, President's Day, Easter, Thanksgiving 9especially the day after Thanksgiving). No more discussion of the vernal equinox, no more talk of Hanukkah, Ramadan, let's get all religious and secular "holidays off the public mind. No more reflections about how things "should" be, no more thoughts about what affects deeply, so many, so often.

Let's also make sure that those who have to work on this day, get paid their normal wage, no special perks, no Holiday Pay, nothing, zip, zilch.

Let us all take the path Scrooge took, one less piece of coal for the fire, one less piece of bread, one less thought about a little comfort.

One need not be "religious" to enjoy the day, one need not be "religious" to appreciate a day off, a change from the normal routine. It does no harm, one can take or reject the day as they see fit. Perhaps, if we took just a moment to just try and harmonize with those around us, we might get a little more done, we might understand what brings us together, rather than shove us apart.

Just a thought.

Shoved hell, I look forward to it now that I don't feel I need to get into any holiday mood. It's just like any other sunday now.

That said, my SO, my kids and a couple of close friends get recognition and that is it. I did not even sent out christmas cards this year. The lack of yearly stress is a wonderful life saver. China can go bankrupt now.

Edited to add that Christians have good music and I am listing to some good year-end music on one of the local FM propaganda stations. Tomorrow it will all be gone for another 6 months, then it will start all over again.

You are overstating. Is someone holding a gun to your head and telling you that you have to celebrate it? HELL NO!

It's funny that many democratic countries are limiting public displays of holidays such as Christmas, but in some Muslim countries there are Christmas trees and music esp. in the malls etc...
