sorry for the "unxmas" post.
What is happening to my town? Chico was rated number one bike friendly town a few years ago. Why did the paper not report this? They also chose not to report the story of a friend of a friend that was hit while walking across the street earlier this month and is on life support. My kid rides his bike everywhere as he doesn't want the added expense (or pollution) of a vehicle while going to college and working. Thankfully he recently found coworkers to car pool with so he is no longer biking the 10 mile one way trip to his new job.
Are they censoring the bad news? This is also the paper that won't do a story on nondisclosed former meth lab homes for sale/sold or rent unless they have my personal story. They also left out the two "overdose deaths"/pending toxicology reports, in the last two months at the "clean and sober" apartment across the street and the death of a homeless person last month. They print plenty of fear mongering stories from the WH, but not all of the true current events. If there is some kook out there randomly shooting people we have a right to know. Especially since this is within spitting distance of Chico State (the street borders the college) which has many students who ride that street to the high school and the college.

I wasn't in the paper and I wasn't in the news, because I was lucky.
On Wednesday, Dec. 5, I was riding my bicycle home from work at about 7 p.m., bundled up in three layers of clothing, heavy gloves and a helmet. I set my light to a flashing mode so cars would see me. I was westbound in the bike lane on West Sacramento Avenue just beyond Tony's Liquor when I heard a "crack" close behind me, then felt a burning sting below my left shoulder. A black car passed me by. It was about 7:20 p.m.
I knew I'd been shot with something but I wasn't knocked down. When I got home I found blood in my clothing and an open wound. At the Enloe emergency room we found holes through my shirt, hooded sweatshirt and jacket. Whatever hit me didn't lodge and must have shaken loose. The wound is still healing.
I was lucky. If I had been hit in the neck or head it might have been disastrous. This event has upset my family, made my children cry and shocked my friends. It feels important to share it. I am grateful to be whole and with my family this Christmas.
If anyone has any idea who may have done this, or what I was shot with, please contact the Chico Police Department. I am identified as a victim of a violent crime. I hope no one else becomes this person's victim.
