8. Half of that IS me. Half of that is FOR me.
I am the lone wolf. I am offended. I am scared of what the rest are doing. I know where my water is.

But the last part is absolutely not me. I take it personally. World struggle is a big part of my attitude and vocabulary. It's almost all of it. I have felt that I must care greatly.

Now I can see that maybe I've only hurt myself. And done little.

I find it very difficult to celebrate. But I will try.

12. Sorry you found parts of it to be offensive.
I can relate to the lone wolf path yet until the last decade or so I was one of the more social creatures on the planet.

Still I refuse to live in fear of others and think that nurturing a sense of community amongst like minded souls to help to alleviate the elements of the world that are struggling can only be a good thing.

I really felt he was referring the struggle in the personal sense as opposed to living more gracefully and in greater peace in the face of challenges. It's more of an attitude shift to help people feel as though life is not so much of a Sisyphian task.

That reminds me of this quotation.

"Expectation is the partner of disappointment. Willingness is the dance partner of life."

13. Interesting. I wasn't offended at all. In fact I see it exactly as you just described.
I found it most enlightening. For I was also the most social creature. And then I became offended by what I saw. And withdrew. But the words spoken by the person in that video have given me a new sense of direction.

And the interesting part is, I just bought a big piece of land. A forest. And I move out of my house in just a few more days, onto the land. And I'm worried. There is little more than a trailer. But now I do have the potential for community. I live where there are no Bush/Cheney bumper stickers. A place where I want to be with the people.

I've been most discouraged. But this gives me a sense that there is no longer time for that. We're in the river now.

16. Oh upon rereading your earlier response
I misunderstood what had offended you. I wrongly thought it was the video not the bozos in the world.

I wish you a graceful transition into the forest and entry into a more expansive and friendly world.

All sorts of really fun and lovely people have been trying to get me out of my cave for a while now.

So maybe it is time to take a flying leap into that river and do an etheric cannon ball.

SPLASH !!!

Funny I first saw the video about a week and a half ago. Right after watching it, I went to the commons in my small town that is sort of notorious for being a bit snooty. People I know casually and people I'd not seen before were all outrageously friendly. Even people known and unknown driving by were smiling and waving.

It was far more than just the holiday spirit for sure and was a real kick.

14. Okay I just made a transcript
Edited on Fri Dec-21-07 01:38 PM by stellanoir
but I wish you could hear the audio and see the visuals so maybe consider bookmarking it and checking it out from a different 'puter.

"You have been telling people it is the Eleventh Hour. Now you must go back and tell the people this is THE HOUR.

There are many things to consider.

Where are you living? What are you doing?

What are your relationships? Are you in right relation?

Where is your water? Know your garden.

It is time to speak your truth.

Create your community.

Be good to each other.

And do not look outside of yourself for a leader.

This could be a good time !

There is a river flowing now very fast.

It is so great and swift that there are those who will be afraid.

They will try to hold on to the shore.

They will feel they are being torn apart and will suffer greatly.

Know the river has its own destination.

The Elders say: We must let go of the shore, push off into the middle of the river,

keep our hearts open and our heads above water.

And I say, see who is in there with you and celebrate.

At this time in history, we are to take nothing personally,

least of all ourselves.

For the moment we do, our spiritual growth and journey comes to a halt.

The time of the lone wolf is over.

Gather yourselves.

Banish the word struggle from your attitude and your vocabulary.

All that we do now must be done in a sacred manner and in celebration.

For WE are the ONES we've been waiting for."

Absotively!

Unfortunately, this can only be done in community, and that's what we 'Murkins have such a hard time doing. It's so much more fun to bicker.

Oh, and I have NO "other 'puter". Not all of us are so blessed.

25. I had not heard that the Hopi nation stopped praying for anything or anyone
Edited on Sat Dec-22-07 03:39 PM by SpiralHawk
And I have to wonder how valid that statement is. Is it based upon some formal vote of the BIA Tribal Council? Or some formal declaration of one of the kivas or clans? And if in fact any individual or group did make this announcement about stopping praying, exactly who are they, why did they stop praying, and why did they feel they needed to make an announcement about it?

I really like the video link to "a Hopi Elder Speaks." It's beautifully done, very powerful, and I very much agree with the basic message. But it also raises questions. If this video is about a Hopi elder, why are all the images of Algonquin peoples, or peoples of the plains? Wrong tribal group altogether.

Also, I have learned to be dubious about material that is unttributed. "Hopi elders" does not smack of authenticity in my mind. So while I have always liked reading the statements that are now incorporated as part of the video, I have also always wondered why no name was attached to them. Who said these things? Was it really some particular Hopi elder? Or was it just somebody making it up? I do not know the answer. All I know is that unattributed material raises questions for me.

29. I wondered about the various faces too
but I'm not as knowledgeable about the various people.

are the Hopi that are attributed with this video the traditionals or the Hopi that have made deals over sacred lands? has the blue kachina danced in the square?

associated with this video

A great video to be sure, but not directly from any Hopi it would seem

31. That was the first thing I noticed.....
none of the images were from Hopi. Grand Canyon and other "generic" images, but no images from Hopi.

I know I have heard this message before...but it is worth repeating.

SH, aren't these old quotes? To me it justs looks like they used some old quotes and put them with images of whatever Native Americans they could find. My sense is they are more into the digital imaging end of things rather than the message.....would appear that it's local but a new one to me.

OK. Did a quick check and came up with these two:

A link to the quote where it is listed as a quote from Oraibi, Arizona, June 8, 2000.

Here's another link that lists it from an unnamed Hopi elder.

FWIW...an interesting article at this link....Life at the end of an empire.

34. Yes, DR. These words have been kicking around for a long time
And they have been repeated over and over.

I have yet to see any attribution...so I do continue to wonder who said or wrote them...

A "Hopi Elder"? I really don't know about that.

33. As far as getting images of Hopi.....
as you know SH, outsiders are not allowed to photograph on the Hopi rez, but there are many older images available.

I always wished I could have taken some photos of those mesas. Best I could do was draw them when I was there or from memory later. I miss Hopi...need to go spend some time there......*sigh*

I kept waiting, and waiting, and waiting...

And not once did I hear a Hopi voice.

I seriously doubt they'd record it ...plus I'm pretty sure it was from 2000 at Oraibi.

Still the message is good.
