Just in Time for NH: Return of the The Daily Show and Colbert Report, Jan 7th!!
This afternoon, Comedy Central announced that Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert would return to the cable network's airwaves Jan. 7. Neither show has had new episodes since the Writers Guild of America went on strike Nov. 5.

/snip/

Here is Comedy Central's press release:

"'The Daily Show with Jon Stewart' and 'The Colbert Report' will resume production on Jan. 7 with both shows returning to air that night without their respective writing staffs. The Jan. 7 return follows a scheduled two-week, end-of-year hiatus that was previously built into the shows' production calendars. We continue to hold out hope for a swift resolution to the current stalemate that will enable the shows to be complete again."

-- Comedy Central

"We would like to return to work with our writers. If we cannot, we would like to express our ambivalence, but without our writers we are unable to express something as nuanced as ambivalence."

-- Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert

Should be interesting

1. *without* their writing staff?
Soooo, how is this supporting their staff? Are they leaving their writing staff to twist in the wind?

7. Yes. The producers are holding the crews hostage.
How clever of you to blame the writers.

10. It sucks.
I've got a friend on the Colbert crew.

But Hollywood knew it was coming. Knew it HAD to come. Of course, the producers could have just given the writers their fair share. But that never occurred to them. And after the writers, the directors and then the actors will be dealing with the same problem. The first contract leads the way.

The Alliance is betting it can hold out longer than people who will lose their homes. We'll see. And we'll see who crosses the line to sit with Leno and the others who were forced back to work.

6. How about they are being forced to go back to work?
Or didn't you read their statement? It was as acid as it could get. THEY SUPPORT THE STRIKE. THEIR PERFORMANCE CONTRACT DOESN'T. Only the teamsters have a contract that allows them to refuse to cross the line ...if they're in fear of their lives.

PS: You know nothing about the history of labor if you give such a management-loving excuse as you just did. Basically, you say it's okay for management to hold the crew hostage for the good behavior of the writers. You're willing to reward blackmail. Don't ever let me hear a word from you about Reid or Pelosi being weak and giving in. Disgusting.
