My distant relative didn’t die on Omaha Beach for party politics.
Omaha Beach, (D-Day, 6/6/44), along with Iwo Jima, were probably the two bloodiest American battles of WWII. The unimaginable horror of Omaha Beach was the grotesque nightmare portrayed in the opening scenes of Steven Spielberg’s “Saving Private Ryan.”

The reason he died was because he was there. I never knew him and have no idea whether he was a Republican or a Democrat. He died while invading Hitler’s Europe. He died because he enlisted at the beginning of that war to help stop some villainous barbarians from turning the world into hell.

Since I never knew him, I can only speculate about this. I’d like to believe that he would find today’s wars odious. I’d like to believe that he’d find today’s Republican Party grotesque. I’d like to believe he wouldn’t lift a finger to fight for some trumped up cause to make the wealthy wealthier. I’d like to believe he’d fight against the villainy that exists in our country at this very moment.

But here’s the dilemma. The current war in our country is an ideological war, not a shooting war. Nonetheless, why aren’t we shunning those who are aiding and abetting tyranny? Why aren’t we in the streets with torches and pitchforks? Why didn’t we scream every time another one of our freedoms was stolen?

And I can’t help but ponder that if my distant relative could see his country today, would he wonder what it was he’d died for on Omaha Beach?

2. I understand your sentiments, Cyrano
Not all that have been sent to Iraq went because they wanted to go to fight for *CO!

Remember that and don't believe the RW propaganda. But I agree that those that have fought

to preserve our Constitution would be rolling over in their graves right about now.

Maybe we should alert the Congress and VFW again because it doesn't seem like they got the memo's. :grr:

:patriot:

3. I couldn't agree more, Breeze. How so many WWII vets of the VFW and
American Legion can line behind Bush and company is beyond my comprehension.

These are people who fought tyranny first hand, and yet, it baffles me how they don't seem to recognize it's reemergence in today's America.

Perhaps there are too many that go with the "My country right or wrong," crap. But then we're talking about a generation that really did save the world. I wish I knew how to get through to them and let them know that we are becoming everything they fought against.

4. I have the records to prove
some of my relatives fought in the Revolutionary War, the War of 1812, the Civil War both WW wars, Korea, and Vietnam. ALL OF THOSE WARS THEY FOUGHT AND SOME DIED.

What are we going to go do about an administration that does what bush does. We can't do anything. All we can do is try to vote for the right person at the right time. And I don't care what people think, Obama is not the right person NOW. From his actions, missing votes, jumping around on stage and flip and flopper to what he thinks people want to hear shows he is too immature to handle this country. And he is too immature to realize it.

5. Bitwit: I would politely ask that you do not make this thread about Obama or
any of our other candidates. If you want to bash him, please do it elsewhere. This thread was about tyranny vs freedom, or, to put it another way, Democratic virtues vs the current version of Republican fascism.
