Does anyone know who is representing the telecoms against the wiretapping lawsuits?
There is where we'll find the ties (money, personal, whatever) which would explain the actions of many of those in Congress who are pushing for retroactive immunity.

Verizon is being represented by WilmerHale (lead attorney - John Rogovin, former FCC General Counsel)
ATT is being represented by Pillsbury Winthrop Shaw Pittman and Sidley & Austin.

I don't think you'll find any explanation for the actions of members of COngress by looking at who is acting as litigation counsel.
